Does it.. is it silly because it has little to do with cricket ie runs, wickets, fast bowler, spin bowler.. etc. etc. etc...

or is it silly.. because you like to live in world where the unjust is unseen and not spoken about.

I find Im being accused of little understanding of the caste system and have no right to talk about it. I would go far as to say the Indian posters who have accused me of that, are them selve in denial of what is just and what is unjust. I may not be living in India, but from the articles I read the law may have changed but the ways of the caste system have not, and no one seems to be doing anything about it. thats why I suggested Tendulkar as any great sporting hero can, can really make a difference. ie like people like Mohammed Ali or Kathy Freeman.

Thats all I want to say on the matter.

PS Id be more than happy if Im incorrect about what I think I know, when I visit India in the near future lets hope I am.

You are being accused of little understanding of the caste system because you have never been to India, your only source is articles you read. Caste system is same as racism. People may be racist, but calling it a tradition of a country is pigheadedness. In your post you emphasize that what little you know is from articles you read and you have the audacity to come here spouting your ignorance and accusing us of living in denial.

TBF, having only articles and reference material as sources doesn't stop a lot of people banging on about plenty of stuff on CW, and in general.

To accuse someone who has read articles and viewed doco. on said subject and then tell him that until he visits India he wont understand is that is truely the pennacle of ignorance.

You know there are many great things about India and Indian people that are truely fantastic but amoungest all that is good there are area's India could address, I didnt want this to be two guys on the internet attcking each other over samantics. I personally felt with the status someone like Tendulkar has he could atleast bring it to the attention to people that matter if he cares maybe they will, whether its racism or something else its still important. even if its only 1% of the Indian population that are in this situation that's 10million people.

While no Indian will (or at least no Indian should) deny the existence of castes (and/or Dalits) in India, it is really ignorant to suggest/insinuate that one can not find a Dalit in an office next to non-Dalit.

The biggest office in the Indian Democracy is that of a Lok Sabha (House of Commons or people), the speaker happens to be a Dalit. The constitution of India was written by a Dalit. The CM of the most populous state in India is a Dalit, infact there are many more examples of Dalits doing really well in the country.

First of all I don't think you should talk about things you have no clue about. No one has denied here the existence of Caste system, but saying that nothing is being done is just pure ignorant. Despite all the laws, Social reforms are not easy to achieve, it takes time to educate people, I can see the difference, it is not where we want to be, but it is definitely not where we have been in the past.

Secondly, How do you know that Tendulkar has not been doing things to "make difference in people's lives" ? Apart from what he already does on the cricket field to change our lives, Tendulkar has been actively involved in the polio campaign, not just in India but also in Pakistan, has been involved with UNICEF in its Sanitation Campaign, Sponsors some 200 Kids education in Mumbai. Recently helped raise a charity some 100 Million Rs., He has been associated with UNEP and many more acts that most people are not even aware of.

These are wonderful campaignes Tendulkar helps with, I hope you all accept my apology for labeling Tendulkar incorrectly, I hope when he retires and can find more time to continue to help and progess change in many unfortunate lives throughout India and the world.

Thank you for accepting that you may have been wrong but let me tell you that I labelled your comment as silly because ground realities can be much different from what is seen in a few docs or read in a few articles.

I will give you an example. I went and stayed in Malaysia for the past 6 months and people there actually had the impression that all men in Pakistan had beards and that all women in Pakistan cover their face with a veil. Their info came from some documentaries too. Now I can tell you that not even 5% of Pakistan's male population will have beards and not even 10% of Pakistan's female population will be wearing a veil (rough estimates both of them). One will probably never find this out sitting 10000 miles away but once you step into the country you realize that reality is quite different from our perception.

I once showed my Malaysian friends an "average" Pakistani's picture (I showed them Imran Khan's picture lol) and they thought that Pakistanis were so handsome. Of course they soon found out the truth that he wasn't an average Pakistani but they got the message.

It is obvious you have never visited India and have NFI of what you are talking about. Keep posting more **** about a country of whom you have bloody information... I mean, lets juz call entire Australia and NZ racists then, coz well, that is what the articles portray them to be...



As I said, I dunno why facts seem so alien to you. You say you would be happy to be proven wrong.. I would say I would be happy if you ever understand that the world does not revolve around the articles that you read and WANT TO read...
