It's not as simple as just not 'liking' it. If there is a thread which is genuinely worthwhile, but it doesn't interest me for whatever reason, then I probably wouldn't post in it. But in this case, I actually have a beef with the concept of this thread - and when you are opposed to something I think it is unreasonable to suggest you should simply ignore it.

That's true, but the point still remains that apartheid was an abomination to a degree that alcohol endorsement simply isn't. It's easier to brace yourself to oppose something that is infinitely more detestable than something that isn't.
You keep missing the point. Friendship might have been a factor, and I think it was. But it is folly to pretend that apartheid by itself wasn't deterrent enough to a degree that alcohol endorsement isn't.
