I think people over-estimate this. Obviously they've been massive for India over the years but many people would agree that Dravid is in decline and Laxman has always been in the category of great-to-watch rather than all-time-great. Meanwhile, India have Kholi, Vijay, Pujara to provide some promising cover, at least in the short term.

I don't mean that India won't miss this quality batting line-up. But losing them won't be the end of the world either.
Laxman is not an all-time great, but his record of producing important/match-winning/match-saving runs has been amazing for India.

Laxman is not an ATG but India have always had the tendency to lolapse suddenly losing 2-4 wickets at once despite the insanely strong batting lineup. Laxman was always there for that situation. When Laxman goes, It'll become a lot more noticeable.

Yep. Put a Marcus North/Yuvraj in place of VVS... the results won't be pretty at all.

I must say that you are one of the better debaters on this forum.
ha ha. thanks mate. wish it were fully true, though. i cant write as well as some of the other guys in CW. but i do love to talk about cricket.

I would like to see a debate between you, Ikki, and Migara (when he is on song). Would make for great reading :)..........
ikki, from the time he was kazoholic, and i have had long acrimonious debates in so many threads. he has promised to buy me a drink when i go to australia (didn't you, ikki?). and he will be my guest if he visits india. i have had less, but equally nasty, debates with migara too. learnt quite a bit from him as well. nice guys, both. they like to punch hard!

Can't wait for this series to start....

Battle of probably the best 2 teams currently.

Amla and De Villiers are the two guys I think India will have to take care of. If they are succesful in this they'll win the series.

I just checked the fixtures. The second test apparently ends on dec 30 and the third starts on Dec 2. Seriously? Just 2 days?

It's that that unusual, if you look at previous series in South Africa and Australia you'll see that the gap between the Boxing Day and New Year's Tests often is only 2 days.

I'll be attending one, maybe two days of the Centurion test and am quite hopeful of getting to the Newlands test as well

It is going to be epic. Sadly though all the matches start at midnight for me. Going to have a tough time watching these and working the day after.

So I've got the Ashes 02:00 - 09:00; and SA-India 09:00 - 17:00, leaving me 17:00 - 02:00 to sleep.

...

If that lasts even one day I'll be surprised
