*Official* Third Test at the WACA

actually we shouldn't joke about that. he's rated highly within the set-up. already got australia a games.
Judging by recent selection policy there's enough people to fill a football team that they rate "highly". Some of which struggle to get 1st Grade games

If there is no other specialist batsmen in the squad to replace North other than Smith, then that means Smith is definately playing. So surely they have picked Smith because they want to use him as a bowler as well as a batsmen. Otherwise, if they just wanted a batsmen, why wouldn't they have picked e.g. Khawaja. Give that, surely they wouldn't want to play Beer as well as Smith? Really don't see why the WACA needs 2 spinners...

Beer Battered (or should that be batted?) will be the headline next Saturday night.

His selection is like when you're playing sub-districts cricket and you're one player short, and you're ringing around the morning of the game to get somebody, anybody to fill in - sight unseen.

I'm guessing Haddin will bat 6 and Smith 7. Despite his unconvential technique his First Class record speaks volumes. As a bowler he is a work in progress, but certainly no Cameron White, thank ****

Just quietly, Hauritz in line to get Sheffield Shield player of the year with those figures

Gotta feel sorry for both Beer and Hauritz at this point. Has Hauritz murdered someone, that we don't know about? Surely he's the best option they have at the moment.

Beer gonna get smacked around.

Aus selection going from India-bad to Pakistan-WTF??! levels.

Roebuck is a hard marker, and had nothing but positive wraps for Smith's bowling in the paper this morning, having watched this Shield game.

The kid will be a super star.

Rowers Roebuck this morning:

Smith bowled energetically and presentably. Working hard at the crease, he projected the ball down the pitch and periodically made it hasten after bouncing. Before long he produced a ripper that turned sharply and climbed steeply to confound a groping batsman. Not long afterwards he ended Tom Cooper's defiance with a ball that dipped into the batsman's toes. It was a classic leg-spinner's dismissal.

He is not the finished product but Smith is a better bowler than his returns indicate. On this evidence, he is worth a go as a cricketer who adds zest to the batting and bowling. He has more spark than Marcus North, an amiable fellow and a capable cricketer.

This kind of thing just pisses me. England are hosing us, and they play heaps of First Class Cricket. So we're going to improve by playing less First Class cricket and more McCricket. *shakes head*
McCricket.

Describes it brilliantly!!!

I'm pretty meh about the selection of Smith, on the one hand they've finally given North the boot and there is something special about Smith, he has some good skills and plenty of potential, I'm reasonably confident he'll develop into a very good player for Australia down the track. On the other hand I don't think Smith is good enough yet with the bat...and especially not with the ball... to be able to make a significant impact on this series, and he was picked ahead of Dave Hussey and Khawaja who both appear much more ready to contribute at test level at the moment.

Johnson in for Bollinger was stupid.

Beer instead of O'Keefe or Hauritz was stupider.

Phil Hughes is in poor touch, but there are no other fit openers putting up decent numbers at the moment and he does still average North of 50 in FC & Tests, so their hands were tied there.

All things considered it's a poor side, worse than the one which played in Adelaide imo, and I fully expect us to get hammered unless Harris or a couple of the batsmen have blinders.
