Seeing Swann bowl you would figure Hauritz wouldve bowled at least 20% better than Xavier, with that rough. Even Tuffers had that nice loop, X man has nothing at all, very disappointing stuff.
He proved KP's vulnerability to SLA - got to give him the rest of the series to continue to exploit it.

Well the Aussies will have to make at least one change as i can't see Katich playing so presumably Hughes comes in to open. North may be dropped if he fails tomorrow and there will be at least one change to the bowling as Doherty has to go and i can't see them picking the same pace attack after it failed.

4 changes seems a bit drastic but could easily happen. Then again North may win a reprieve by the fact that Katich is out, not wanting to make too many changes and all that.

1 Marsh 2 Watson 3 Ponting 4 Clarke 5 Hussey 6 Khawaja 7 Haddin 8 Johnson 9 Hauritz 10 Harris 11 Bollinger/Siddle

England should probably play Tremlett.

Pietersen doesn't have a problem with SLA, he said so in an interview yesterday.

Anyway, I think we should drop Swann, play four quicks and have Pietersen bowl spin.

Yuvraj is the most famous example of his vulnerability, so I disagree.
Yuvraj doesn't bowl only darts like Doherty, infact he at times bowls very slowly through the air and those sort of loopy balls are the one's that KP had most issues with, anyways think marc's comment was more in jest than anything.....

No way Marsh should be playing in the test team, he is a highly mercurial batsmen and most importantly he seems to have an ongoing back problem so without a shred of doubt Hughes should be picked ahead of him.
Also would have to squeeze in Hilfenhaus into the team, he is our most consistent bowler since the last Ashes and having him in the team is important.
As I have previously said, Dougie and Hilfy are our best opening bowling combination with Harris coming in as the 3rd seamer, Siddle and Johnson aren't bad bowlers but they just need go back and work on bringing more variety to their bowling.

If anyone is mercurial it's Phil Hughes. Call me crazy but I don't think the selectors are concerned with picking cricketers with ongoing back problems either, M Clarke to agree.

I also don't think it's a bad idea picking a batsman who is in form and playing at his home ground. While Hughes this Shield season has averaged an Alex Doolanesque 22.

I'm not certain on the bowling formation, but I'm very sold on my top 7 assuming Katich is out.

I'd much prefer Hughes over Marsh. Hughes has a far better record, and is a far better batsmen than Marsh imo. He also has vital test experience and is the almost guaranteed replacement for Katich when he retires.

Yep. You can pick a debutant on short-term form, or you can wake up a realise that one of your candidates averages over 50 in First Class and Test cricket, scored multiple hundreds on the hardest Test tour for batsmen in the world before his 21st birthday and managed 80 odd against this team (admittedly a different set of bowlers, but still) a few weeks ago .. while the other has flattered to deceive for most of his career, struggles even at a lower level of cricket to average what we'd consider acceptable at this level, is just making his return from injury and isn't even a specialist opener.

Hughes for Katich (assuming he's injured) is a given for mine. Candidates to replace North should be Khawaja, Dave Hussey and White. Darsh and Ferguson shouldn't feature.

Johnson should play. :(

You simply don't drop bowlers who are that successful previously on one disastrous match. Even if he was bowling absolute bull**** in that math.

I don't buy the entire confidence player argument either.

The ultimate irony lies in the fact that most people saying this (not saying you're one of them) would bring him in for Bollinger, who fits the description exactly as well.

Siddle's not going to be dropped after his Brisbane heroics, Harris has actually bowled really well here and Bollinger shouldn't be dropped again after being dropped for no apparent reason and then being recalled for one game to bowl on the second flattest pitch in world cricket on the back of his batsmen giving him 245 to work with. Not least because he's actually Australia's best bowler.

Leave the pace attack as is for a couple of Tests, IMO. Don't let panic completely set in.

Yeah totally agree with that. The bad thing about switching bowlers so often is that they don't get a chance to redeem themselves. It's not often a bowler like Bollinger will have two very bad games in a row.
