*Official* Second Test at the Adelaide Oval

And sanity prevails.

Would like to see Harris in for the Hilf too. Could get excited about watching us bowl again.

Either that, or Hilf comes out and actually takes wickets on Friday/Sat morning.

There is a case for both sides to freshen their attacks after the long hard slog both endured in Brisbane. Back-to-back Tests are hard for bowlers and Australia captain Ricky Ponting said he would be assessing the physical condition of his attack closely. Although not officially stated as policy, the hosts intend to rotate their fast bowlers this series so that no one plays all five Tests, which suggests changes will be made here.

Siddle hasn't been dropped, they've just missed him from that squad list (they say 12th man to be named, but have only named 11..)

Seriously pissed off. Nothing more to say than what I have already. Hope Dougeh/Siddle/Harris (assuming his knee doesn't give way or something) clean up and Hilf is just meh...again (which is almost guaranteed to happen).

Sounds as though Harris will come in for Hilf:

"Skipper Ricky Ponting today confirmed Bollinger ‘s inclusion alongside Peter Siddle in the XI with a decision to be made on the morning of the match between Hilfenhaus and Harris.

Much will depend on how Harris's troublesome right knee responds coming through training."

So it sounds as though if Harris is fit, which I'm sure he will be, he is in the side.

What a ****ing prima donna. Should realise that bowling turd tends to get you dropped,
I'm not very convinced by that report. Others from within Australia noted that none of the bowlers who played in the First Test bowled yesterday, and that it was only Doug and Harris who had a bowl at the batsman. Some went through ridiculous detail in recording their bowling efforts.

Hmm I read "12th man to be named" to mean that the 12th man for the test wasn't confirmed, but the named players would be the ones walking out on the field tomorrow. Happy to be wrong though, as dropping Siddle would be very harsh.

Harris just about has to play simply because he's the only bloke out of the 5 bowlers in contention good enough to bat number 8.

Agreed. The final 4 would literally be good for about 10 runs if it was Doherty/Siddle/Hilfenhaus/Bollinger. We need some tailend runs especially with our current batting inconsistencies.

Geez we really need to win the toss on Friday – going out there with 450 under our belt on Saturday afternoon will make a world of difference to our struggling attack.

More than a touch of irony if the let Hilf play with a boggling injury after they let Dougeh go last test and let it be known they were concerned at his lack of fitness.

Yeah but Hilf is in contention with Harris who also has some problems with his fitness. So it's a choice between two players who both could potentially exacerbate their injuries during the match.

With Bollinger, he was replaced by a fully fit Siddle.

Should drop them both and pick Cameron then. :p

Have to say, should Hilf get the nod, a lower order of Doherty-Siddle-Hilfenhaus-Bollinger is the longest tail I've seen an Aussie test side have for quite some time.

Not seen a lot of Doherty's batting, but his FC record suggests a competent 9 or 10 at best.

He is a little bit than that record suggests (bats reasonably high in club cricket I believe and has actually batted as high as seven for Tasmania), but he's definitely no more than a good nine. He'll definitely get nosebleeds if he bats eight in a Test.

It'd make an interesting contrast between the teams though - Australia having four bowlers all approaching rabbit status while England have Broad and Swann, and Australia having Watson and North as backup bowling options while England have Collingwood and Pietersen.

When they say Joynson is staying with the squad, do they mean just for a day or two, or longer? Surely he would be better off being released and playing for WA?

Don't see the benefit in Johnson playing for WA. Would rather him stay around the team as 12th man or have a break from cricket all together for a week.

He might go back to WA, take another 5-fer, score another ton, and that would arguably prove absolutely nothing.
