*Official* First Test at the Gabba

International 12th Man
Well played Cook. Been very impressed with this innings, he has looked more assured and disciplined than the knock in the first innings which whilst impressive was a bit ramshackle at times. Looks like he's got his confidence back, hopefully it's for good.

And whatever people may say about his technique you have to admit that 14 test centuries at 25 years old is pretty damn impressive.

Well played Cook. He's got a really great career going for a 25 year old. Can't believe he's that young TBH.

As an aside, how huge does that LBW appeal off Strauss's first ball look now? If that one's hitting instead of just going over, England probably 2 or 3 down for 20 at stumps yesterday and probably 6 or 7 for 200 right now. On such tiny things do matches turn.

Side for the next match:

Watson
Hughes
Ponting
Katich
Hussey
Klinger
Haddin
Doherty
Harris
Siddle
Bollinger
That's a fair tail. Harris would be an excellent choice if his knee can stand up to five days of cricket. Already this team has Katich and Clarke under fitness clouds. You need strong, fit guys with back-to-back tests.

Although if Hussey was caught first ball this match might have been over already.

What I wouldn't do for 7-8 fielders of the calibre of Ponting, Clarke, Hussey, Martyn, Hayden...

Tough chance though.

And you could probably also say, given that England has batted so comfortably here, had Hussey's plumb LB been given and Australia only had a narrow lead, how good a position would England have been in now?

That's why Clarke isn't there. Happy to give George another go. Don't care about the tail really, we've had massively strong tails in the past that have constantly failed.

I am so impressed with England. This has been fantastic with your backs against the wall.

Cook WAG.
