Ban Test matches in Subcontinent

AaronK

State Regular
Am I the only one who is tired of all these flat, road pitches and drawn matches played in Subcontinent? I don't even feel like watching any test matches that are played in subcontinent anymore considering that it is played to improve average instead of getting any result. Batsman dominating and taking a part bowlers.. while pilling runs.. it is taking the fun away from cricket...

I mean we just witnessed pakistan's fragile batting drawing two matches against world's best bowling line up... NZ drawing two matches against world's number 1 team india at their home while it was their batting that caused them clean sweep against bangladish.. Something has to be wrong with the pitches..

Haha, Dubai is in the middle east, not the sub continent.:p

Besides the best thing about tests is the diversity of conditions in different countries. You need to sit through a flat track match to really appreciate a green top.

Yeah I was a bit bemused at seeing Dubai included as part of the Indian subcontinent. It's been quite common here. Probably England and Australia will join the Indian subcontinent next.

Seriously, way too much variation in subcontinent wickets and conditions to group them all under one category TBH, but that never stops people on here from doing it.

well the hyderabad wicket was pathetic to say the least....a batsman getting a double hundred on a 4th day wicket..

Not a big fan of bangladish. Doesn't go well with biryani.

In India, They should really reward grounds that produce result pitches with more matches. I'll never get why the **** we keep playing Ahmedabad.

Worst part is we're not even playing to our strengths. Our spin bowling is a joke atm and our 2nd and 3rd pacer are effective on helpful tracks and fodder on roads.

Wasim,Waqar & Shoaib and recently Zaheer were able to run through batting line ups on similar pitches if Steyn and Morkal were unable to do so then the fault lies with them not the pitches

Get rid of one crappy ground from every country. Cricket will be all the better for it.
Yeah, Adelaide's pretty much irrelevant to Australia. :p

I wouldn't ban cricket from the subcontinent entirely, but sanctions should be put in place for grounds which fail to produce results.

There have been plenty of interesting test matches in India in recent years but there is usually one out-and-out road in every series. In the recent series I think the first test pitch was on the drawish side but acceptable while the second test pitch was unacceptable. There has been a lot of criticism about such pitches from the players and the media recently so hopefully they will be less common in the future.

What?!?!? Adelaide is a fantastic ground and has produced plenty of results recently. You must not have watched any cricket for the last 5 years.

As has already been pointed out by a few posters, Dubai is not in the sub-continent. Indian pitches have been okay; there is the one out-and-out road in every second series, but the pitches produce results far more often than not.

Recent series in India :

Sri Lanka vs India in late 2009

Test one : road
Test two : India won by an innings
Test three : India won by an innings

Both matches two and three finished in four days if I recall correctly.

South Africa vs India, February-March 2010

Test one : South Africa won by an innings
Test two : India won by an innings

Australia vs India, October 2010

Test one : India won by a wicket - one of the best test matches in recent memory.
Test two : India won by seven wickets

New Zealand vs India, November 2010

Test one : Flat pitch but could have produced a result.
Test two : Road
Test three : India won by an innings.

So, that makes two dead draws in the last ten games; not too bad, is it ?

Sri Lanka only have one crap pitch at Colombo. All the others are good pitches. Pakistan are not hosting anyone at the moment, unfortunately.

In my opinion, suggesting that test cricket should be banned in the sub-continent is just crazy. Why should India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka not get to play in front of their home crowds ? Why should cricket fanatics in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India get to only watch their favourite stars on television ?

A far better option would be to ban grounds that always produce dead wickets like Faisalabad, Ahmedabad among others.

At the OP: Maybe, just maybe, NZ and Pakistan played better than they have previously?

If it has been Ricky Ponting scoring that double hundred in the second innings instead of Brendon McCullum, or England saving that match instead of Pakistan, I don't think you would have used them as examples.
