International 12th Man
Wagner 5-20 in the second innings leaving Auckland at 64-5, an overall lead of 70.

Incidentally either Mason or Wheeler is injured - 7.4 overs for Mason and 5.2 for Wheeler.

I think he may have been sent in as a pinch hitter, Otago seemed really intent on trying to finish the game today.

Shane Bond is on the radio atm. His views are pretty interesting. Must say I don't envy the CD quicks atm. Bond reckons fast bowling is all about attitude and being mega, mega, mega fit. He reckons many FC players don't take things seriously enough.

Well lucky for CD and potentially NZ cricket that Wheeler and Milne will be under Bond's tutorage - get to them early I say.

Canterbury's ridiculously deep batting lineup is finally paying dividends with Hiini and van Beek navigating the first hour.

EDIT: Jinxed

4 to go! CD should still do this, given they have a relatively strong tail, but its been a great fightback by Canty nonetheless, given the paucity of their bowling options.

I really did think we were going to blow another game there for a period of time this morning, what Harry Boam is doing down at eight I'll never know. At the very least he should be batting ahead of Smellie.

Skippy, why did you have to get bowled by the worst of the worst for 57?

McCone starting to get worked around now, which is good, but he has been going at fours for a while now and he's getting the wickets. Surely even if he's a medium pacer it must be brisk? The pitches generally are too flat these days for a 125kph medium pacer to be as consistent as this guy has been. I've never seen him play and cricinfo's definitions can hardly be trusted so anyone know what kind of bowler this guy is?

Yeah, I reckon for the Pakistan series they'll focus on Martin, Southee as the two certainties, with McKay, Tuffey, Mills and Bennett battling for the third seamers spot. I can't see any of the new guard breaking through this year, unless someone has a truly freakish season (ala Wagner/Wheeler so far, but Wagner is unavailable and Wheeler is too young).

Wagner simply has to be chosen as soon as available. He has the stats and has been extremely consistent. What series is he available to play?

He seems to be able to hold the bat also - so that's a bonus. Looked pretty short however.
