Lara wasn't as ridiculously aggressive as Sehwag and Gayle, and he went on with it.It's easy to see why though. Sehwag and Gayle are aggressive openers, whereas the others are more 'careful' middle-order batsman.
See, in this day and age they can have days where they just look impregnable, it's how they roll.Lara wasn't as ridiculously aggressive as Sehwag and Gayle, and he went on with it.
Those guys, as they bat so aggressively, should go out before 300 moreso than Ponting, Sachin etc. Time doesn't stop them scoring triple tons, they just go out.
Up until 15 ago that'd be a lot different though. Barath, Junior Bravo and Nash have all chipped in with valuable runs.Gayle has really been the difference here, if you exclude his runs:
Randiv is looking at 2 for 38
Mendis 4 for 90
And the West Indies would be 233/6
Randiv has been 2 for bugger all against the others for ages, Mendis just cashed in though.Up until 15 ago that'd be a lot different though. Barath, Junior Bravo and Nash have all chipped in with valuable runs.
To add to what Jono said, someone like Taylor and Jayawardene too scored triple tons, so that shows being aggressive isn't everything but having the right application is more important. It's easy to see why though. Sehwag and Gayle are aggressive openers, whereas the others are more 'careful' middle-order batsman.
Valid point. To add to what Jono said, someone like Taylor and Jayawardene too scored triple tons, so that shows being aggressive isn't everything but having the right application is more important.
I think its pretty safe to say that no matter how good some of the modern day greats are, they don't apply themselves that well and there have numerous occasions when people like Ponting, Sachin, Hayden, Kallis have just thrown their wicket away after crossing the hundred mark.
He is the new Anil Kumble, as long as you play him as a medium pacer you would be fine, but if you start playing for turn then lbw or bowled comes into play in a big way.Well well, Mendis has his sixth and he hasn't needed a fielder for any of them.
