Australian Team in 8 years

Son Of Coco

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Given the selector's current policy on changing anything, I reckon the test team will look a bit like this in 8 years time (ages then in brackets).

1. S.Watson (37)
2. S. Katich (43)
3. R.Ponting (43)
4. M.Clarke (37)
5. M.Hussey (43)
6. M.North (39)
7. B.Haddin (41)
8. N.Hauritz (37)
9. M.Johnson (37)
10. D.Bollinger (37)
11. B.Hilfenhaus (35)

Henriques opening? ITSTL.

Good call on Wade too actually, didn't think of him at all when putting mine together. Paine obviously has the semi-incumbency working for him but if Wade keeps going as he has been, who knows in a couple of years.

I just wanted to try something different with my XI - Henriques might not be that great an option opening, but I figured his technique at times looks like Watson's...

If I were picking a more realistic XI, it would probably see a team like..

1 N Maddinson
2 P Hughes
3 M Clarke (c)
4 U Khawaja
5 C Ferguson
6 M Marsh
7 M Wade
8 S Smith
9 M Starc
10 J Hazlewood
11 P George

I like this side. Probably have Paine instead of Wade though. Other than that, please forward it through to the selectors. :)

Wouldn't lock it in now, but I reckon we'll have some great bowling choices in a couple years, especially in the pace department.

Bring back the selectors who retired Jones and Healy.

International Coach
Junior, Boony as well.

Agreed. Need ruthlessness.
If nothing else, we need a coach like Bobby Simpson. That man virtually changed Australian cricket and he had a huge role in shaping the kind of dominant team we had.

There's probably a 12-year-old kid somewhere in Sydney who will be 20 in eight years time, and all the media will be screaming for him to be selected every time he scores a run... bit of a pointless exercise, really :)
Well it turns out that I posted this on the day that Nic Maddinson turned 13. Going to let you draw your own conclusions from that...

Decent effort from Nufan. Hazelwood and Starc spot on. Smith a tad too low . Wade has had a chance. Khawaja spot on, and Clarke could've still been around. Hughes would've been playing, and Warner bolted from nowhere.

I dunno if people are screaming for him to be selected every time he scores tbh. The scepticism on Maddinson is pretty strong, with good reason.

Yeah, I think everybody recognises his considerable talent, but also realise that he's nowhere near consistent enough to demand an international spot at present.

White has a hell of alot of impriving to do if he ever wants to play for Australia, let alone captain.

the spinners - Krezja, White, Hauritz, Doherty... umm some kid unknown as yet

of those Doherty and Krezja are the most likley to suceed at international level... both still to prove themselves at FC level
Well, age_master wasn't wrong in predicting the spinners. All of 'em got a run, plus a few.

Mitchell Johnson isn't even playing first class cricket, he's over-rated as well. Mackenzie is far better than him, but he keeps getting set back by injury.
heh

I suppose I am obliged to mention, however, that I did once advocate for Ben Cutting and Luke Butterworth ahead of MJ. For the 2013/14 Ashes.

Not my greatest call.
