Anyone been watching the Tas stream. Hilf finally picking up some wickets

Dissapointed to see Usman get out cheaply today. How was he playing otherwise? Was hoping to watch him tomorrow

Good on the back foot, defensive on the front. Not a lot more I can say, innings was a bit too short for that.

Oh wow that's an awful shot from Jaques. Really horrible.

Fairly dire stuff from Haddin. Looked all over the shop.

Someone stay out there with Clarke, this is a bit silly.

Good to see the Aussie bats in fine form.Only Clarke scoring runs must be a worry with the test so close.

Sounds like many of them were still in one day mode by the way they got out from the descriptions you guys have given.

Ponting was poo against spin for initial part of his career, Clarke & Hayden had their problems against the moving ball, Steve Waugh struggled against the short ball from time to time. None of these blokes were discarded because the selectors backed their talent, and frankly speaking in case of a match-winner like Hughes it shouldn't have been any different.
Not true, the opposite actually. They were all dropped at some stage of their careers for differing (but generally extended) periods of time.

All of the players mentioned were told to come back as better players, work on their weaknessess, and they did.

The challenge is there for Hughes, but at the moment he doesn't seem to be improving the weaker parts of his game. He needs to bang the door down again.

Agreed.

Looking more closely Clarke and Khawaja have totally different styles. Khawaja likes to stay on the back-foot and wait for anything short while Clarke is a much more all-round player and looking to score.
At least you've seen the light on that ridiculous comparison. Reckon they're nothing alike.

At the rate both teams are going the scores in the first test will be:

England 1st Innings: 150
Australian 1st Innings: 160

England 2nd Innings: 135
Australian 2nd Innings 130

(We still win though you notice )

Was awesome to watch Khawaja bat for the short time he was in and Clarke throughout his innings, hopefully he can get his hundred tomorrow on the day I'll be at home :(

So - speaking as a Leicestershire fan - Why isn't Andrew McDonald even talked about any more?
No role in the Test side. He isn't good enough to make it as a top 6 batsman, and his bowling wouldn't put him in the top 10-12 first class bowlers in this country. With Watson and North sharing any all-rounder duties he simply has no purpose.

Fantastic cricketer, but I can't imagine Australia will reach the top of the Test tree again with cricketers like McDonald.

Basically, McDonald's a #7 batsman and a fourth seamer at Test level in a good side. That's a role that could be found within some teams, even good teams (South Africa at home should they leave a spinner out, for example) but while Watson exists, he's surplice to requirements for Australia.

Yeah, well none of these guys were dropped in such a hurry though, they were all given a fair run before being shown the door, in Hughes case they didn't even give him that breathing space, and that's my only problem with his axing at that time.
Also... how can Hughes show improvement in different aspects of his game, when he's carrying drinks for the Australian team most of the time .
