Current NZL batting potential

Athlai

Not Terrible
Worth the punt I feel.. Looked a pretty talented player and it does not seem like there are much better options around.
Don't mind him being one of the guys we go back to when someone fails. Sinclair, Fulton and How all should be gunning for the number 3 spot IMO (until Williamson is ready to claim it).

What do people think about Brownlie? He scored quite a lot of runs on the Emerging Players Tournament, and has started the season off with 150* odd.

Dunno, but it'd be pretty funny if an Aussie who couldn't make the state side plays for NZ.

Down to no fault of his own however, a knee injury which required a couple of surgeries and hampered his game time over the last three years plus WA having some crazy depth when he was younger meant opportunities were hard to come by - guys like Shuan Marsh and Adam Voges weren't even getting regular game-time.

Would be even funnier if he wiped the floor with you ****s, while you still pick Marcus North and Michael Hussey.:p
Then I'd punch something.

Doubt they'll be around by the time we next play you lot in tests, however.

Hussey probably won't, but we tour your place next season and North has a habit of saving his place. Two big centuries and sfa else should be enough to save his place since your selectors love him so much.:p

Next season? Thought it was 2012 for some reason...

Can't see the selectors remaining patient with North, tbh.

Pretty sure it was the 2011/2012 season.

I think the Ashes will decide North's career.

Anyway, on Brownlie, Unless he starts batting in the top order I can't see him cracking the side any time soon. The selectors seem pretty interested in him but he'll need to put a couple of good seasons on the board first. He's probably one of the dudes they're looking to put at number six when Williamson moves up to three in 18 months/two years.

His disadvantage in the run for that position is if an allrounder comes along he'll miss out.

Like Wells :p

Yea that was my thoughts, he bats at 5/6 at the moment, so in a few years could take Williamson's spot when he moves up the order.

Wasn't going to mention WELLS so someone would take me seriously for a few seconds.:p

But yeah if someone like Wells, Anderson, de Grandhomme put/keep putting big runs on the board and take wickets, Brownlie is up against it.

Must be an all right player though. He was put into the A team pretty quickly.

Already happened with Grant Elliott who couldn't get a professional gig in South Africa. Neil Wagner and Kruger van Wyk could follow in Grant's footsteps.

I would like to see how young Kane goes on a bouncy pitch, hes used to the slow kiwi pitches and the one from the first test.

Hopefully he will show his worth.

At least they actually played FC cricket in South Africa. Brownlie didn't.

Neil Wagner played 1 professional game for the Titans I believe. The rest was amateur cricket for Northerns. It carries FC status but the standard is lower than grade cricket in Aus.

Elliott was pretty young when he was in South Africa iirc, and Wagner hasn't done anything for Otago to deserve selection (barring his 6fer today).

Kruger van Wyk is a quality cricketer. Hope he gets a run.

But yeah, South Africa have crazy depth.
