I disagree, aside from 2 good spells (on debut & against Oz in Brisbane) in conventional swinging conditions, Southee's bowling in test matches has offered pretty much nil. Why has everyone suddenly lost interest in McKay? I like the prospect of a left-armer who bowls good lines at 140+ kms. Even Arnel's accuracy would be more a better option than Southee IMHO.
I don't know, Southee's last test match (and series) was pretty good. You can understand why they didn't go with him in the last test and instead went with Bennett but for mine he has to play in this test match after seeing what Martin did with the swinging ball in the second innings.

4/61 vs the Aussies at Hamilton. And that was his last test.

Southee has a better FC bowling average AND strike rate.

My only concern about Southee is what Woodster said - ie that he is a bad match up against Sehwag.

I did say 'pretty much nil' & am confident that would be the only other worthwhile exception. Anyway, that aside, I specifically don't envisage him succeeding in Indian conditions since he relies mainly on conventional swing & isn't particularly accurate. Certainly see him being less effective than either McKay or Arnel on these tracks.

I've got to agree with Hurricane here, Southee has talent and I'd prefer him to Arnel. I like McKay. His left-armers could lend some variety, I don't see much of an argument against picking both.

The whole point of picking three seamers here is that we're disregarding Jeetan. So we've agreed that conditions don't matter so much as just being a more threatening bowler.

I remember Southee doing well in 2008 against England also.

If the pitch is going to have more bounce, we should play Ishant Sharma. Would play 3 pacers and Bhajji, Ojha can gagf.
