The first statement still stands. That the large portion believe that someone who is questionable test material is the best choice for captain shows the depth of their cricketing knowledge. If Australian cricket is going to mortgage itself to the whims of the masses then we have an almighty problem on our hands.

The reason Clarke will be next test captain is that there's no one who's not too old (Katich) or isn't of questionable test quality (White, Ferguson and all these other random names that are popping up) who can actually do the bloody job.

Again, I don't know how he's playing at the moment, but White's average with the bat in FC now over 40, isn't it? Wouldn't be the worst shout to give him a run ahead of North/Hussey if there's any chance he'd be a good skipper IMHO.

Clarke as the Aussie test captain is just eeuuww.

I'm one of the few Victorians who believe White shouldn't be in the test squad. Get sprayed everytime I say "no" whenever I heard it here.

I then tell them go gagf and yell DUSSEYYYYYYYY

Now that's a Victorian who should be in the test squad :cool:

I'd be surprised if White ever played a test again. Partially because he's been shoehorned in as a LO specialist and a heavy hitter, partially because he had a fairly poor start to his test career and impressed precisely zero people - not entirely his fault, as he was made to play as a specialist spinner, which is just lol IMO - but the point stands.

I imagine both Khawaja and Ferguson are well ahead in the pecking order.

Nah, Clarke's just Ponting lite. He's the best batsman (after Ponting) so he'll be the captain. Tactically he doesn't look much cop (no 2nd slip to a bloke with 4 wickets bowling to a #10 with the score on 110-ish today wasn't important in the grand scheme, but shows regimented thinking) and, as one understands, far from universally beloved amongst his charges.

No gully was pretty odd too when the bowlers are getting such bounce. I wouldn't say he's overly bad tactically - very much liked his tactics in the T20 vs. Pakistan last year when we were defending a small total - but does make a few oversights. Absent-mindedness, I think, which is a term too easily associated with aspects of Clarke's play.

Clarke has proven himself in t20's to be very tactically sound tbh.

Obviously is not 100% perfect, but will grow into it.

Also, that stuff about people in the team not liking Clarke is complete bull****. It's been documented that Clarke and Katich once had a run it, but who cares? Don't believe what you read in the papers.
