He mentioned batting only.Marshall >>> Wasim. Any given day
Ankit this is in batting. Wasim might well trump Marshall in batting.Marshall >>> Wasim. Any given day
Yes. Jaya seems out of place. There were better options available even amongst recent players.Take out Bradman I reckon and it's a lot closer.
Jayasuriya a bit of an outlier for the first team though, must be said.
This.Team 2 in tests, team 1 in shorter forms of game.
Cool. It's fun to discuss things like this with family. The reason why I posted this is because one of my Dads friends and I both decided to make up a team of what each of us thought were the best players ever. The only thing was that we couldn't pick the same players. So now he thinks his team would smash mine and I think mine would smash his. So that's why I posted it here to get other peoples opinions and to settle it once and for all! I am younger than he is so that probably explains why my team is full of more modern players than his. I don't really know why we chose a backup bowler and batter, but I think it was because it was hard to narrow it down to just 11 players and since we don't know what the wicket would be like it made it hard. I suppose you could think of them as being in the squad and depending on conditions and the wicket we would choose a team from that squad.
Bugger all to choose between them. Genuinely neck and neck. How about these 2 teams:
A
Hutton
Hobbs
Headley
Sachin
Viv*
Sobers
Gilchrist+
Marshall
Warne
Lillee
Mcgrath
B.
Sutcliffe
Gavaskar
Hammond
Lara
G Chappell
Imran*
Sangakara+
Hadlee
Ambrose
Murali
Donald
Picked both teams based on the premise that players in team A are generally considered by the gen pop and the so called experts as the best in their respective fields: ex Sobers best AR, Lillee/MM best fast bowler Sachin best after Bradman etc. or best in a particular generation. The players in team B were their relative understudies. Left Bradman out for obvious reasons.

Wouldn't agree with that at all. Might be marginally better at best.Batting- A
Bowling- A
Keeper-batsman-A
Team A is clearly better. Not by much but but enough so that there is daylight. Both contain enough talent though to beat the other on any given day.
Agree with that. Think the real difference between the two teams is Sobers/Imran. Sobers makes Team A a stronger batting unit, while Imran makes Team B a stronger bowling unit. Forced to choose, I will choose Team B because 5 bowlers + 6 batsmen trump 4 bowlers + 7 batsmen, specially given Hadlee can bat too.Wouldn't agree with that at all. Might be marginally better at best.
I think bowling for team B looks stronger. And captaincy wise Imran might just edge out Viv. So team B looks better led too.
Hadlee > Lillee
Murali = Warne
Marshall > Donald
Ambrose = McGrath
Imran > Sobers
Team B bowling attack looks better IMO.
And batting wise it is still quite close.
Wonder when Sangakkara will start getting his due? It's not so easy to say Gilchrist > Sangakkara as a batsman as well as a wicket-keeper.Batting- A

When SLCB organizes more tours abroad and gives him opportunities to score more hundreds outside the subcontinent.Wonder when Sangakkara will start getting his due? It's not so easy to say Gilchrist > Sangakkara as a batsman as well as a wicket-keeper.
Maybe when Sangakkara manges to combine batting and keeping at the same time?Wonder when Sangakkara will start getting his due? It's not so easy to say Gilchrist > Sangakkara as a batsman as well as a wicket-keeper.
