^ I hadn't heard about that but thats a good initiative to promote Heartland rugby. Was nice to see Sky give coverage to the Heartland finals (from memory they've done that in the past) and although I didn't have the time to watch the games in full it was nice to see a little bit of what our true provincial teams can offer.

Good on North Otago, and particularly Ross Hay, who is likely to retire after more than 100 games for the Old Gold. A true legend of the lower divisions.

In the Heartland Championship, yes, but only because of the two years I spent there. My real home team is Otago, for all my sins.

Did the math on the standings - I think I will be down 1 or two points on Somerset going into the final week. everyone will back Canterbury and to be honest they should do it easily. I will back Waikato however in part because if I back Canterbury I will finish third or so. And secondly because Waikato is my home team.

I wouldn't count Waikato out - Canterbury looked a bit flaky on defence on Friday against a relatively inexperienced Wellington side, particularly in their backs; and of course Waikato easily defeated the Cantabs just over a week ago at Waikato Stadium, albeit in a game that had little riding on it for Canterbury in terms of a semi final place.

Didn't we have Sivivatu for that victory. I thought I heard that he was injured now.

Also on Otago - I am sure they will bounce back they have a decently sized province - just a matter of time for them. When I grew up it was a big deal to beat Otago - they had Greg Cooper and other strong players.

Sivivatu came on at halftime in the win over Canterbury though from memory didn't play a massive part in the victory. And you're correct, hes re-injured, which is a shame.

Regarding Otago, I hope they bounce back because its certainly not good for Highlanders rugby when half of their roster will be filled with imports from provinces outside of Southland and Otago. I made a few predictions at the beginning of the year, one of which was that Otago's squad looked weaker than in past years, and so given they've struggled over the last few seasons I wasn't all that surprised to see them succumb to some of the teams they did during this season. Losing to Counties Manukau in your first game is never a good beginning anyway.

Are we picking the score, or picking the margin for the final? Margin would be easier for Somerset to calculate the difference, but happy to pick either.

PTM - Canterbury by 5
PTS - 26 - 21 to Canterbury

You can pick a score if you like but I'll just use the margin if we need a tiebreaker.

Canterbury (by 8, even though I don't have a chance to win)

Reminder to Vimes, Brumby and Voltman to pick before tonight - if they don't I'll give them Canterbury but with no margin so if they're tied the won't beat those who did pick a margin.

Canterbury leading by 5 at halftime but they could easily have been leading by closer to 20 - and thats even playing into the wind. Two tries disallowed and I'd probably have awarded both. Waikato simply haven't shown up and with conditions favouring Canterbury in the second half it'll be a difficult task for Waikato to win.
