***Official*** Australian Domestic Season 2010/11

Watched most of today's game on the laptop. Siddle looks back. He bowled with real fire and full of his typical aggression. I don't believe he will replace the main 3 Australian quicks, but I'm comfortable that he is first backup.

Great news!

Just watching the sa vs wa game, can't believe Ludemann came in for Ferguson.. Duval looks to be in good batting form.

Ergh the more it happens, the more I hate this split innings format. Even if the two innings were the same length I'd still find a way to hate it.

It's the type of game that Victoria have won regularly over the past year or two, with a big hundred from someone. Be interesting whether someone will stand up and produce it with a slightly new look line-up.

Joke that Ferguson was rested yesterday, mandatorily. As AB said, if he was flown in as a replacement for the Australian team, he would have played. There are too many people at Cricke Australia who do too much thinking, who get too funky. I think we can also see that with the tinkering to the domestic one-day competition. They just can not leave well enough alone- always sticking their bib in.

Another poor result for SA last night. It was the same old story again really, The Top order failed badly, the lower order rescued the total somewhat and the bowling was decent. SA really need to win this shield game starting tommorow or they can kiss the rest of the season goodbye I'm afraid. Daniel Harris might need a big score soon to keep his spot, same with Borgas. The shot selection and batting in general was pretty dire, they lack confidence IMO.

Duval is deafinitely allrounder material from what he has shown with the bat. George's action looked a bit wayward last night and he also looks to be bowling to far from the stumps.

is this the death of australian domestic cricket? no one day comp just another IPL mess in australia?

edit- fox news site even says aussie states are threatening to set up a new rebel league if the buyouts aren't allowed :|
Wouldn't be surprised with the way this dump is run. I will stop watching cricket when there's no test played and it's just one big APL.

tbf. it's no suprise Indian investors want to get involved. The IPL seems to be collapsing.

Too right. Think I was born 20 or so years too late. Imagine a time when all the test guy played most shield matches, hell a Vic v NSW 4 day game was on boxing day, awesome!

What gets me with this though, i don't think attendances will rise from the clubs being bought out by investors, more money may be made from broadcasting but does this also mean our game times will change to suit Indian time zones?

Don't think that'd ever happen

And tbf, attendance for domestic 20/20 is huge.

I'm still fairly certain that if cricket moves towards 20/20 it'll kill itself from the inside out. Cricket has been a game built on historic struggles and battles that has brought out heroes like Border and Waugh - That's what the Australian public has always wanted. A real hard fought match. 20/20 just brings da large sixassss.

It's a weird one. They're not getting utterly spanked so making wholesale changes isn't on the cards but they're not really competing either (game against QLD not withstanding) so it's not as if they're just having a bad run and if the selectors wait it out, they'll come good. Edmonson very expensive again. Goes for plenty even when he takes a few wickets.

Cannot see Harris being in danger, though. Aside from the leadership he brings and ridiculously good fielding no matter where you put him, there's noone else!

Need a bit of bold play to ignite the team because there's signs of form from the top-order. To me, playing Ludeman down at 9 was a bit of a waste, throw him up the top with a brief to go nuts and see what happens.

Yeah, the cricket from SA hasn't been the worst, so that is why I think there still a good chance to win the upcoming shield game. Things should start to click soon and we should gain some momentum but it does need to happen very soon or that is the season gone.

Harris should deafinitely be in the shield line-up unless he has a real dire run for a long period of time. I'd drop him from the List A team though, his record is medicore and he doesn't score that quickly either. We could open the batting with someone like Ludeman, Blizzard or even Cooper. I mean Ludeman at 9....that is just ridicolous, why not just pick James Smith or another batsmen or Kane Richardson if you want an allrounder.

Ferguson not being selected was dire as well. Edmonson always looks pretty dangerous when he bowls providing that he doesn't bowl a 4 delivery every over.

That 4 ball an over is part and parcel of Edmonson, or has been for his entire career thus far. Always seems to go for runs.

Yep, less is more with Twenty/20 or anything for that matter. They are killing it. Plus, the crowds have platued for Twenty/20 here in Australia (and you would be shocked if you knew how many free tickets they give way -especially out at Homebush). I just don't think people will necessarily want to go and see Brisbane v Geelong or Kallis in the coloureds for the 2nd Sydney 'franchise'. And there's talk in the Courier Mail here today of Warne and McGrath playing too (I kid you not). Geez, these guys retired four years ago. But rest easy, this is from the same administrators here in Australia that brought you split format cricket - designed to bring the crowds back!

Ha I'm on a roll here..

Anyway, less is more

"Oh look, there's another six, and another one" zzzzz boring.

I have no idea how these so called franchises here in Australia could be worth $80 million, when even the strongest Indian T20 teams are making losses of $6 million annually. There is not the market for that in Australia, and the idea that Indian TV viewers will tune in and cheer for and follow the Geelong franchise for example, I think is unlikely. On that score (following overseas domestic T20 teams) I have never heard any friends or associates who follow cricket, express any support or following for the Chennai Super Kings, Knight Riders etc. People are just not interested in other countries' domestic IPL teams. I really think they are trying to force this T20 phenomenon onto the public and are way ahead of where public interest actually is.

The administrators are getting carried away because they got some good crowds for some domestic matches and players like Chris Gayle were incredibly popular.

Think I've mentioned it before, but CA will probably do to 20/20 what they did to ODIs. Play them excessively until the public grows tired of it. There's no need for gimmicks or franchises.

Ideally this summer -

The Ashes series gets huge crowds - Already looks like happening
Good test cricket will be played - Highly likely
Crowds for Domestic 20/20 go down drastically - Good chance

This way, CA still make money from the summer and don't go broke, but they realise domestic 20/20 isn't all what its supposedly cracked up to be and decide against making some ******** franchise system.
