In the History of the game this record has been achieved only by Kevin Pietersen and Allistair Cook. What is this record?

I'm guessing that it relates to playing for two different countries at two different sports; e.g. Donnelly played cricket for New Zealand and rugby for England (I believe).

Actually, is the connection that they played rugby (union?) for England and cricket for their original homeland (Aus/NZ/Safrica respectively; although Woods also played cricket for England I believe).

Yup, spot on. :) All three played test rugby for England and test cricket for other countries.

Although in fact Mitchell was English by birth and had played test cricket for the mother country versus SA before transferring his allegiances.
