So so bad. What Odds on Roy still being the manager after Christmas? Reckon we'll see Torres gone in the January window, who'd srsly want to play in front of that Midfield?

BARNES OUT
Change my surname to Piscine (sounds foreign, so that's a good start) and give me a professional contract at the CDMs and I'd bag a fair few goals and assists playing up front with that service. A focal point forward should be scoring hatfuls for them.
I've seen photos of you, I'd be surprised if you could run.

A few times is different to months on the bench not playing.

Maybe Reina. Definitely the best outfield player, as you say, by a mile.

Come on...
Well, we've had this discussion before, I don't rate Gerrard too highly as a CM. Doesn't do the simple things often enough for me.

Seriously take out a loan to buy him and then flog him to Barca in a couple of years.

edit: Also can add Seamus Coleman to the list of Everton youngsters I'd take in a flash. Really like him as a player.

I think it's very likely that he'll go in January. He looks like a little heartbroken puppy. Fergie doesn't really have much of an option because you can't possibly keep picking him when he's playing THIS badly.

It's going to be a tough rebuilding job but I don't know if there's any alternative.

Reckon Shrek's the type of lad wqho'll go down the Ronaldinho route soon enough anyway. Getting 50+ million in for him sorting out a long term keeper and padding the squad could be a great bit of business in the summer.

I think his influence is a bit overstated for sure. In particular it's strange that so many seem to see his form as a major reason for our below-par start to the season, given that we've scored so many goals and our poor results have been much, much moreso down to bad defending and giving goals away. There's definitely some benefit in losing the huge black cloud constantly hovering over his head.

On paper the team just looks so much weaker minus Rooney though. It seems so bizarre that four months ago he was someone you'd expect to be banging in goals up front for United for years to come and now we're genuinely considering whether the team would be better off without him.

On a side note, I really don't think it's likely that he'll have much success if he does move to Spain or Italy. Agree with duffer- he looks very much like he's on the Ronaldinho route.

With all his much publicised marital troubles, as well as his sister in law's poor health and how close his wife is to her family, is a move to Spain or Italy even feasable for him personally if he wants to save his marriage?

Is there any actual basis to believe Rooney is leaving Man U or is it all just rumours? I haven't been following it much.

He's not signing a new deal and there's only a year and a half left on his contract.

It's all just part of the contract negotiations isn't it? - a bit of posturing on both sides and so on and so forth

Just out of general interest what are the laws with playing advantage and the foul continuing?

For me it should be if you're pulling someone back and it carries into the box then it should be a penalty. I just wondered if the rules contradicted this somehow.

I'd have thought common sense would give the attacking team the best advantage possible.

The worst implementation I've ever seen was when Rangers were playing at Kilmarnock. Buffel got the ball on the left, cut inside and was clipped by the defender - he stumbles, but regains his balance in time to get into the penalty area, the ref indicates advantage, and he's flattened by the next defender in the box. The referee decided to pull play back to the initial foul. 8-)

BBC Sport - Football - Blackburn 0-0 Sunderland

"Referee Lee Probert, having consulted his linesman, correctly applied the letter of the law in dismissing the giant Samba, and was also right to award a free-kick on the edge of the area where the first contact was made"

It's reading stuff like this that makes me wonder. First contact implies the foul continued into the box - I've not seen it myself but presumably someone has. I dunno if the red card complicates things, but I'm sure there are plenty of other examples without that complication anyway.
