***Official*** Australian Domestic Season 2010/11

Ponting wanting to hang on the captaincy seems like it could be his downfall in the future to me. I get an irking he'd rather retire then give it up so in the next year or two i could see him leaving completely rather then letting someone else take over and still batting somewhere in the order (i'd like to see him drop down the order abit if his form remains patchy) if the side keeps performing poorly.
What sucessful Australian captain has ever given up the captaincy and played on? I can only think of Ian Chappell and he handed over to his brother and his decision was because he seemed traumatised by the Lawry sacking (he said he would never let those $%%%$ do that to him)

Jaques is the real hard-luck story of Australian cricket. Insane to think that a Test opener in 11 Test matches could score 3 centuries at a touch under 50 and may never play a Test again.

He simply hasn't returned well from his injury. The numbers have been solid, but he is nowhere near the same as his run of form from 03 to 08. I notice he had a poor season in England, his first lean season ever in England? I have watched Jacques bat twice in the past 12 months at the ground, and he doesn't look like someone you want in the Australian Test side. He is suffering from a prolonged loss of form and confidence.
Well yes his return form injury in the last year in sheid & county cricket have just barely solid. This season & beyond are the big ones for him of course to regain that 03-08 form.

But of course Chris Rogers is still around. But his time may just have gone.

Was just going to mention Chris Rogers, surely a batsman that is good enough to have earned more Test caps. Was surprised Australia went to Watson ahead of either Jaques or Rogers at the time, although not sure if Jaques was struggling with his back then.

Although you cannot argue with how Watson has done for consistency since becoming another manufactured Test opener, but would have expected Rogers to get more bigger scores, more match defining innings at the top.

As you say though, it appears his time may have gone.

So good to see Qld make a good start against the Vics 2/114 from 20 overs. Harwood is getting smashed. My mate Lynn is batting tremendously.

I'm going to make a society for him. Chris Lynn Is Tremendous or CLIT for short.

Philipson must be a real frustration for Queensland fans.

After his first couple of Shield seasons he looked like a fantastic first class batsman. He has hardly scored a run since and is now only used as a backup. His List A form though, has generally been consistent and deserving of his spot on the side. Philipson is quite possibly the first batsman named for each game now. Hopefully he transfers some of that OD form across; Queensland could sure use a decent middle order batsman in the Shield.

Lol.. Craig Phillipson just dropped the F bomb live on a Fox interview.. Gold.
! I saw that, his reaction afterwards was priceless.

Mark Cleary bowled very well for Victoria to. :(, bloody SACA.

Brad Hodge a chance for the world cup next year or too old? Is he keeps this form up he could be a match winner!

He has the best eye in domestic cricket at the moment.
He's a better batsman and fieldsman today (let alone at his peak) than Marcus North has ever been but that's irrelevant to some so no point worrying about it

Watched the whole match, Hodge was really beyond impressive, it was an innings of someone who really is just too good for domestic cricket. Single handedly won the match. Thought his previous seasons form was awesome, then he retired from FC cricket and I thought he might ease off, but the last two innings have been Tendulkar like.

Pretty ridiculous that Nannes is playing and taking wicket in domestic OD cricket & is not in India ATM.

The sooner these selectors are fired the better.

Hodge was just as brilliant last week only finch went with him then. In the last 2 weeks he's made his highest one day score and i think his 4th or 5th highest last week. If you were going to pick a best australian one day side today regardless of any factors except form and talent you'd be hard pressed not to include him.

Agree that the selectors should be fired, but I don't think Nannes not being in India is that big a travesty. Brett Lee plays today, if he does well will you be saying the same thing about him?

Oh yeah for sure, Hodge is an absolute professional, who must have pissed off the wrong people. Does anyone know what his relationship with Ponting is like? I get the feeling that if R. Ponting was not an Australian, B Hodge would have played for Australia on so many more occasions.
