*Official* Australia in India 2010

Did anyone else note how funny Peter George's celebration of his first wicket was? Completely unco, as if his muscle control had failed somewhat in the excitement. Basically ran down the pitch with an excited expression flailing his arms somewhat randomly
yeh he does look pretty gangly and awkward doesn't he. Reminds me of a ridiculously tall 14 year old prepubescent (sorry George).

Just saw that 'Australian slide worse than WI slide' thread. Thats absurd. I honestly think if Australia make a few good selection changes, we could still be no. 1 in tests. Think about it, even with this flawed team we really challenged India at home. Imagine what could be possible with a reformation...
Great logic there. Australia lost because the team was flawed.

The team is, even now, very good. It's just the Indian batting line-up is incredibly good right now. Bowling them out twice in India is going to be incredibly difficult. On that front, I am not sure just how much better we can do.

The batting however and the collapses in recent years can/should be addressed.

@ Teja, I rate Praveen heaps. Was hooping the ball in the ODIs here back when India toured.

See nothing wrong with it? Not saying Australia would have necessarily won with a better team selection (we will never know), but it would have increased out chances.

It was the batting again (mainly) which let us down. If we didn't get such a bad total in this test, we could have won, or drawn at least.

Who do you reckon has the best pace bowling unit out of Aus and SA?

-Bollinger, Johnson, Hilfenhaus

-Steyn, Morkel, Ntini

Ntini got dropped ages ago.

Australia, anyway, IMO. South Africa don't even know who their third seamer is yet and I'm much less convinced about Morkel than most. Steyn's comfortably the best bowler from both sides but I'm definitely more one to rate attacks with several good, proven, above average bowlers than attacks with a superstar and a couple of bowlers of debatable merit.

Who have they used instead of Ntini in the time after he was dropped?

de Wet, McLaren, Tsotsobe and Parnell. As you can see they're less than settled on it. "Kallis" is probably a better answer; whoever else they've picked has largely acted as the fourth seamer.

I think Steyn is a tad overated. 35% of his wickets (which is the largest share) are tail enders. Compared to 28% for Johnson, 17% for Hilfenhaus, and 26% for Bollinger.

Wow that is impressive from Zaheer Khan...only 18% of his wickets tail enders. 47% are the top 1-3.

Pujara's approach was assured and he scored briskly at more than a run-a-ball, forcing Australia to re-evaluate their plan of attack. "If you see the wicket, it's a lot easier to bat with the new ball than when the ball starts reversing a bit," Pujara said. "Australia were trying to get some wickets early on. They were trying to attack but also trying to defend. They didn't know what they were trying to do."
