*Official* Australia in India 2010

Who would replace Hussey though? That is a big problem...

Mate, the risk is to keep him in the team.

Hughes, Smith, Kawaja etc.

People (not you) act like the cupboard is bare, like his replacement will be like him (and average in the 30s).

How long do folk expect these guys to play for?

MEMO: 35 is old for a sportsman- there is no disgrace in being dropped/being found out.

Hey jono, tweet into the sofa and tell them the team the aussie guy just read out, that drew shocked reactions, is not too dissimilar from some teams here (rogers aside because everyone's accepted he's not going to play again ever and paine, most people are still picking haddin)

definitely the watson 3 and ponting 5 is not unheard of.

ftr the team they read out iirc was

katich
rogers
watson
clarke
ponting
paine
smith (i think?)
johnson+dougeh+hilf+?

Australia are simply worse than India and this is the best Australian team available bar arguably North.

There, I said it.

There is no shame in losing to India in India.

Dropping Hauritz for Smith is nuts. Leg spin takes years to develop, and you have to manage them very carefully. Smith would have died out there against such good players of spin if he erred even slightly.

North is the only possible drop. Hughes, Smith, et al are all wonderkids and not guaranteed successes (Hughes has been shown up a bit at test level as well) and David Hussey etc is basically the same as North and Mussey.

Johnson, Bollinger, Hilfenhaus, Hauritz and Watson is defo the best bowling attack Australia has available.

No way should Hauritz be dropped for Smith, of all people. Mckeefe, maybe. But defo. not Smith.
Why? Australia's attack at the moment is clearly centred on pace bowlers, so not having a good spinner isn't even of particular concern. Also, the side has useful part-timers like North, Clarke, and Katich who Ponting often gives preference to over Hauritz. And finally, I honestly believe Smith could be developed into a better spin bowler than Hauritz anyway.

He could but he isn't, now.

I think that is why Rashid isn't in the England squad this winter, throwing a young leggie into such a big series could ruin him before he has developed properly.Smith might get in at 6 i guess if North fails early on but i can't see him being picked ahead of the more experienced Hauritz just yet.

Zaheer this is a lesson to you. You grow a rat tail, you don't win awards in an honourable game like cricket.

Yeh well isn't it time to prepare for the future? We are 5th ranked so what does Australia have to lose?

I reckon the selectors should take some risks for once, and try out a team like the following:

Watson
Katich
Ponting
Clarke
Khawaja
North
Haddin/Paine
Smith
Johnson
Hilfenhaus
Bollinger

And if people are so opposed to replacing Hauritz (which I really don't know why, because he is doing nothing for the team), then replace North with Smith and keep Hauritz.
