So your solution is to drop a guy for a much less experienced player who you admit would probably be of much the same standard? Smith has potential, but he's not a test bowler. Hauritz, I would argue, is, albeit a moderate-to-serviceable one. Prior to this match, he's taken 60 test scalps at <33, going for just over three an over. He's a decent number 9 batsman as well, so it's not like Smith would be replacing a bunny. In any case, selecting bowlers for their batting is a bad idea.
I'm saying I don't think Smith could be much worse than Hauritz. I really think he has a lot more potential and could be a lot better, however.

PLUS he is a good batsmen.

So there are two options:

1. Keep the mediocre bowler who averages 20ish with the bat.
2. Get a new bowler, who probably won't be any worse than the current one, but I think has more potential. PLUS could average 40 or more with the bat.

Pretty obvious decision if you ask me...

I dont have a problem with Haurtz being retained

Like Harby, whose record in Oz is deplorable, he's far better suited to his home conditions and can be counted upon to do a serviceable job in the Ashes

The batting lineup is a different story

Any complaints about Kat and Clarke and jusy simply unwarranted. Its one series ffs!
The compaints about Clarke didn't even wait until the second innings, let alone the end of the series.

My point is that a ludicrous number of people have chips on their shoulder with regards to Clarke. They believe that he only averages 50 because he scores runs in situations walking out at 6/300 on pancakes, and he couldn't possibly score runs in tricky team situations when the top order hasn't done well. They hate the fact that a pretty-faced New South Welshman is the next-in-line for the captaincy.

My point is not to denigrate Katich by any means, but to point out that he's scored a similar amount of runs over the last two years, and hasn't especially been that much better than Clarke at preventing collapses and doing exactly what the team needs in tricky situations. But **** me if you ever hear words to that effect. Because he looks tough and didn't originally come from NSW anyway.

Such people **** me to tears.

Clarke's fine - just had a **** series

Katich, on the other hand, finally paid for throwing away start after start after start - guy should have at least half a dozen more centuries than he does

Batting stats this series,

Tendulkar - 403 runs @ 134.3
Watson - 271 runs @ 67.7
Ponting - 224 @ 56
Paine - 183 @ 45.7
Vijay - 176 runs @ 88

I'm really impressed with Watson. More than worth his place purely as a bat atm IMO, getting Hughes in and batting him down the order would be a poor decision.

Sehwag has had a very average series and I hope he kicks into form in the NZ series.

Ponting will gain a lot of confidence for the Ashes with this performance too.

Really happy about Vijay, Pujara and Raina, looks like Pukara is comfy with the short ball too.

Tendulkar is a ***y beast.

Precisely. But you'll never hear a word against him from those aforementioned folk.

Well played India. Well deserved win.

Kudos tonour blokes who toiled well, Hilfeh particular.
Watson and Ponting aside though, our batting was poor (nice to say that about Punter again). Paine looks good, but we badly missed Dougeh.

Dougeh!

Dougeh.
