The most disappointing thing about this tour is the fact that we just aren't good enough to win away from home nearly as often as we used to be able to.
I think you need to remember that we would've won the first test if not for an umpiring error

Having said that, this result gives us an excuse to undertake a looooooooooooooong overdue bit of spring cleaning

Yeah, in all fairness the only ones who have really underperformed are Clarke, Katich and Hauritz. Watson, Ponting, Bollinger, Johnson, Paine were all above-expectations for mine, that's half a team right there.
And of those, Clarke and Katich would be two of the first names on everyone's team list, so not really a selectorial issue there.

The main thing that will have caused us to lose this match, besides Tendulkar being awesome, was Dougeh being injured. So in terms of a management issue, there was maybe an issue there in terms of letting your no.1 bowler play a mickey mouse T20 domestic tournament that compromised his preparation for an important test series.

I would like to see Hughes in the team, and I think it will happen soon. He was probably dropped too quickly, or left out for too long, esp. compared to North, but I certainly have no problem with them giving Hussey a bit more slack in terms of time to recapture form.
But just how long can you pick a guy who has a serious and obvious problem around and outside off stump, which everyone knows about and can exploit, has had so for 2 years, and is 35?

Looks pretty good to me TBF.

 Come on.

What do people fear by making changes.

That replacements are going to come in and average 30 with the bat (well, the incumbents already are)

That we going to lose big-ticket series on the back of their bad batting (well, with the incumbents, we already are).

Geez, if we take and chance and be bold, maybe we can have some improvement.

It's never been part of Australian cricket to tolerate guys averaging in the 30s.

It's not about expecting to 'arrogantly' win every game. It's about standards.

Yeah that's what makes it weird. I remember before the series those were the two most people expected to do best, and I think everyone expected them to at least do well. Hell at the minimum score a 50 between them.

I certainly don't think we expected Clarke would have the issues with footwork and/or picking up length against spin that he's had in this series (or this test at least).

There have been selectorial and management "issues" surrounding the team for a long time - they are simply magnified when the team is losing
Easier line to rattle off when your team is losing as well. This is a longstanding gripe of yours, and I've never really understood what you specifically think the problems are, besides IIRC you took strong exception to how CA handled Andrew Symonds. What would you change?

Bowling stats from this series,

Zaheer - 12 wickets @ 21.8
Harby - 11 wickets @ 33.2
Ojha - 9 wickets @ 38.8
Johnson - 8 wickets @ 32.4
Hilfeh - 6 wickets @ 43.5
Hauritz - 6 wickets @ 62.6

Zaheer has been amazing and clearly the best bowler in the series. Hope he continues like this. WAFG.

Hilf's results in no way reflecting how well he has bowled.

Well, technically, he had a poor series figures-wise. Although he was pretty unlucky and bowled well.
Two massive understatements there. If he bowls like this in the Ashes I'll be a very happy man, was superb for mine.

some of the Aussies reaction over is OTT. IMO the biggest difference maker was Clarke had he been his usual self Indian would have been chasing 250+ in both the games which would have resulted a win in the first and a draw in the second Hauritz show was expected, Ponting's captaincy was expected North and Johnson inconsistency was also expected at the end of the day India at home is probably the 2nd toughest challenge in world cricket so a 2-0 loss with this side is not surprising.

But would have probably lost by 2 wickets without two umpiring errors.

Reckon you're better off bringing up the close run out when discussing how close Australia were to winning that test.

Apart from Zaheer, that's fairly average bowling returns for everyone.

I absolutely agree. When your key player, your best bat over the last two years simply doesn't show up it's a massive hit.

And it's not like it was a 2-0 thrashing. We were one bad decision/a few inches away from a win in Mohali and this only became a cakewalk in the last two hours or so.

Haha, once again Mitch becomes nigh-unplayable with the game having dirt shovelled onto it.
