Seriously, probably because he doesn't fancy playing them and as captain of the team, with the amount of important matches coming up (Ashes, WC), why would you make him play in another forgettable ODI series?

I dunno, I thought Ponting adopted the mentality of treating each series individually, irrespective of future events like the Ashes.

I am pretty sure he will be around in tests for that series.. He will probably retire in 2012 home series with a last match at Mumbai.


And with some luck, he would have series wins in Australia, England and RSA in his last 2 or 3 seasons in international cricket and he will retire having won series everywhere in the world. THAT is something the great man deserves.

well... yeah, will be horribly difficult to achieve. But he (and Rahul and Laxman for that matter), deserve it..

Would like to see some evidence of batsmen scoring 70s and 80s failing in the second innings more often than if they hadn't. Obviously if they get a real big score they can be a bit mentally/physically tired but a whole team of 50s and starts has nothing to do with a second innings collapse. One of the stranger theories I've come across tbh.

I don't agree with the way he's generalized it for the entire team, but it certainly seems to be the case with Tendulkar (*nervous about tomorrow*). Haven't done the stats BTW.

He was actually talking about Australia. Was suggesting that the fact that all the batsmen made contributions but none of them made huge scores in the first innings meant there was going to be a second innings collapse as they'd all fail after contributing in the first.
