If you are a cricket fan who cannot separate a few people on CricketWeb from how you judge a player, than you've got issues and it is hard to have a proper debate about the merits of a cricketer with you. Because you're inherently prejudice against the player because he has fans that annoy you.
haha yeah. While his fans really annoy me, try as I might, I can't dislike Sachin, neither do i rate him less

TBH, it's more than a couple fans. The hype around Tendulkar is unmatched. You have PROS saying stuff like "Sachin is better than Bradman".

Lol, you couldn't be more condescending sometimes if you tried.
I know it's not all, so I am not tarring everyone with the same brush here. Frankly, regardless of what you think of me - you seem to dislike me - but I reckon you're a good guy and you're one of his fans I respect. But if you don't see the extreme idol worship the guy gets I truly wonder.

Whatever it takes!!!
That's what makes it so hypocritical.

The praise Warne got during his career, and some of the over the top stuff said about him, was immense. But no one batted an eye lid.

The same is being done for Sachin, but because there are some annoying posters on CW who get defensive over Sachin, suddenly if a cricket player says Sachin is better than Lara, or speaks about how he's been so well behaved for 21+ years, its superlous and over the top.

Don't have to be a genius to see the ridiculousness of this.

Correct me if I am wrong here Jono, but most of it IS what I said in my post, isn't it? :)

Haha I don't dislike you Ikki. I don't dislike anyone on CW (except SilentStriker ( ))

But like you do, I'm going to call it like I see it. If I see someone having a go at Sachin or gets annoyed at someone praising Sachin, when in reality such praising happens to the players they like too, I'm going to point it out.

Ofcourse I see idol worship of Sachin, in general and on this board, but if I attempt to tell posters to stop, you come out with your interesting theory that people on CW hide their biases to try and pretend to be neutral.

I can't win Ikki!

Waqar and Sree are the only two cricketers good enough to be called by their first names tbh.

From memory it was actually a reasonable point. I may recall incorrectly, but I think Ikki was pointing out that a few posters were attempting to put down one player while indirectly and covertly propping up their own favourite player

I am pretty sure I can seperate the wheat from the chaff in that regard here at CW.. And honestly, the fanboys (of Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Warne whoever) are easy to spot...

That point stands tbh, esp. in the context of the poster about whom the point was made, if I read it right...

So, for example, saying Chappell wasn't fit to tie Richards's bootlaces in order to build a reputation as being unbiased before entering into a Ponting v Tendulkar thread and pumping up Ponting?

Sounds like a lot of effort. :p

Nah, a recent example would be Richards overrated thread - Considering Sachin is one of his closest 'rivals'. So by trying to put down Richards, Sachin is therefore indirectly raised

Bro, I reckon you're fair a lot of the time (if not all the time) so I don't want to give the impression that you're wrong or I am right. I'm just saying "there is another side".

I guess you're right though. I do encourage people to opine as they wish and not always use a counter-weight in their posts to ward off bias accusations. I guess there is a fine line where that crosses into grating on other people though. The dangers of a multi-cultural/national forum.

Ahh, so it's less complicated than I thought.

If anything I do things the opposite way - I dislike a player first, then I automatically start liking the rivals for his place in the team/all-time team/arguably equivalent rating. I guess I'm just sadistic. :p

Actually, GS you're off. I was saying I'd much rather see a post littered with praise or regards a fan may have for their hero than see a watered down version of that post respectfully addressing all said hero's contemporaries.

Like:

"Sachin's ODI double ton was incredible, I remember being at the stadium, and the atmosphere was electric; we were witnessing something amazing. I remember when he upped a gear....etc"

vs

"Sachin's ODI double ton was incredible...although that doesn't mean it was the best ever, and Anwar's 194 and Viv's 189* out certainly compare, etc"

No one is handing out high distinctions here; no one is really giving marks out for being impartial in the same post. I'd love to hear about Anwar's or Viv's innings too, but it doesn't have to be in the same post just to show you're respecting other people's opinions.

I feel weird saying that, because those are very good traits: consideration and perspective. I just think this forum is generally pretty intelligent and level-headed, so seeing that in so many posts kinda numbs me. That's probably just me though, from the sounds of it.

I can't find the post in particular (though Ikki has said it a few times), but I remember Uppercut quoted it and said something along the lines of "Seriously?"

Tried searching but no luck. I don't recall it being what Got Spin is saying though, nothing like bagging Viv to make Sachin look better or whatever. More along the lines of pretending to be neutral when praising the player you have a bias for.

Edit: Nevermind, Ikki posted an explanation above.
