*Official* Australia in India 2010

We have scraped through our fair share as well - Pak in Syd, India in Syd (although both are tainted for different reasons), South Africa at home where Smith batted with a dud arm.

That said, Australian Test matches for the past two years have been more exciting then Test matches involving any other nation - that is a fact.
Five. Since Edgbaston, then we had Adelaide, Sydney, 08 Indian series, both SA series, Cardiff etc. etc. etc.

time to replace ponting with clarke at the helm (or at least, time to plant such doubts in ponting's mind so that australia remains a second tier test team at no.4 or 5)

It's fun seeing Australia in tatters just a month or so before the Ashes. :D
In tatters? Hell no, we almost beat India - the world #1 team I may add - with a spinner who barely scrapes Test-standard and half a batting order who had either barely faced test-quality spin or were otherwise suspect against spin, with a fast bowling lineup who had for the most part never played a Test in India. Think it's a pretty fine effort TBH.

Yeah it's because we have totally lost our ability to 'ram home the advantage' with both bat and ball.

The Test matches involving Australia are exciting for sure, but so frustrating!

Wouldn't go that far mate. We just had a very close and competitive match with the Number 1 team in test cricket in their own backyard which they happen to be extremely good in.

Tatters was the wrong word, but losing a match where you should've won quite comfortably.
I could say the same for the Indians when they started your 2nd innings. It was a game of ebb and flow, no one took a stranglehold on it though both teams had ample opportunity and in the end it literally came down to one split-second decision.

This match showed how close the sides are, and if India come out of this series with a 2-0 win looking like world beaters I will be seriously miffed. They are a good team, but they are not deserving of a concrete no. 1 ranking. It is obvious that there is little to choose between India, Aus, and SA.

I seem to have missed some action on this thread. I wasn't even watching on television, but followed it on my phone and radio.

VVS Laxman may just be the best batsman with a sub-50 average, always MVP, always worth his India cap, and possibly worth a higher civilian honour. Take that, Deccan Chargers! Let's just stop bagging Ishant Sharma for now, as he's done full justice to every India cap he's got, and he's worth persisting over a long time. He needs to be mentored and groomed, so that he doesn't miss out, and senior players and ex-players will be vital here. Ojha, not so much. He's been the Marcus North or Nathan Hauritz for this team.

Should have won comfortably? Did you only watch the last session and a half?

That match ebbed and flowed the whole time. It was a classic.

It was a topsy turvy match, you could say both sides should have won it comfortably. Also I think India's position after Sachin got out was understated, as pointed out at the time. Fact is it was even and Australia's stranglehold of the game was exaggerated.

2010 has been a great a year for Test cricket.

Some matches involving England, Australia, India, South Africa and Sri Lanka have been truly nail biting stuff....

Is this a sign of the test cricket flourishing again or is this the last hurrah before it's eventual death?

Yeah, and you would say that had Sachin not played that silly shot India may well have cruised home easily.
