Yeah, not much paine and watson can do now except survive, but the slowscoring Hussey/Watson partnership is starting to look like it really hurt them.

Playing for stumps now, clearly but run rate has been an albatross after tea. It's all well and good crawling along like Hussey & Watson were, but when a couple go down it doesn't look so clever.

Why not (Hughes at 6)? Can't be worse than North and gets him around the team.
It's just not ideal to ask an Aussie who has only ever opened the batting to start his innings against spin on an Indian pitch. Is Usman Khawaja with the team?

Although I agree that it would certainly be a better idea than shunting your best batsman around the order in an effort to accommodate your worst.

Englishman copys Irishman's post. Gotta be a racist joke in there or something.

Another good ball, well played by Paine. Dhoni really should have held on to that regulation nick.

Well played Watto. Another close in fielder or two in that last over would have been good.

Ponting having an amble changed everything. Could've got back on track had Clarke been more sensible and played himself in, but after that...

Pathetic from Australia but, then again, what do you expect from a team that has consistently collapsed for the last 18 months?

Selectors should be lined up and shot for persevering with proven failures like North and giving Hussey far too many opportunities to resurrect his form

Totally gutless

Good stuff. Test cricket is alive and kicking in Mohali.

What did we learn today?
- Ishant Sharma is regressing rapidly
- Shane Watson is one of the premier cricketers in world cricket
- Ricky Ponting batting is still a delight to watch
- Classical left-arm orthodox still has a role to play
- No bowler is more dangerous late in the day than a reverse swinger paceman
- North must go

Looking forward to doing it all over again tomorrow. Thread remained in good nature, biggest win of the day.
