Tbf though, Our tail has proven quite a handful to Sri Lanka in the recent series and the likes of Harbhajan and Khan can drag on for a bit particularly when the pitch is not doing much.

IIRC, Harbhajan averages 22 against Australia too.

Mithun obviously hasn't developed enough to be a potent bowler in test cricket as of now, but his batting has come as a pleasant surprise to me. He was batting with maturity and got out for well-played 40s twice. Potential bowling all-rounder material IMO.
All our tailenders did well in that series bar Harbhajan in the one match he played.

Sharma's 75 runs might give him an average of 25 but he was not close to Mithun in batsman-ship as evidenced by his SR being in the 20s. He still scored considerably fewer runs compared to Mithun.

Mishra played only one Innings and I agree he played quite well for his 40.

Ojha scored 35 runs in the series overall despite playing all three games. Meh

Mithun on the other hand scored nearly twice as much as Sharma with a SR of 50, looking quite like a genuine test Batsman at times and averaged 30.

IMO, of course.

I was speaking generally, they all did well enough considering they're tailenders. But yeah, Mithun looked to have the right temperament for Test match cricket. Hopefully he works on his bowling and comes back with a bit more variety and wicket-taking options.

The first Test was disappointing for a variety of reasons because we lost it in 4 days of actual play, despite the tail really fighting hard to prevent defeat on the last day.

Anyone know if this series is being shown in the UK can't find anything on Sky's website. Will be gutted if it's not have took a day off work on Friday to watch the 1st Day of the test then Ryder Cup.

Apparrently noone has the rights as of yet, but these things can go down to the last minute so i'd imagine if it is going to be shown anywhere in the UK (which it should) then it'll be Sky. They usually show all of the Australia and South Africa series so fingers crossed.

Will try to keep you updated, though.

That's rubbish! Someone at work told me it was on Sky, I was looking forward to it. Huh, not much point getting into it now.

India's bowling form over the past one year

Zaheer Khan - 32 wickets @ 27.37(7M)
Harbhajan Singh - 27 wickets @ 46.25(8M)
Pragyan Ohja - 21 wickets @ 42.80(6M)
Ishant Sharma - 21 wickets @ 28.28(8M)
Amit Mishra - 16 wickets @ 52.25(5M)
Virender Sehwag - 10 wickets @ 33.30(10M)
Sreesanth - 10 wickets @ 34.80(3M)

The bowling looks terrible. Heavily reliant on the form of Sreesanth and Zaheer atm.

It should be noted that 7 of Sehwag's 10 wickets came in 3 matches against Sri Lanka @ 27.57 when no Indian bowler apart from him averaged below 40.
Geez, I thought he'd been in poor form for a while, but that's dreadful.

Made the same balls up! Had booked Friday, Monday and Tuesday to watch the entire Test, then looked on the Sky planner tonight to find.....nothing! No live cricket anywhere to be seen. Gutted.

Hopefully there'll be a late change to the TV schedule.

Was reading that they're going to put him through his paces a bit more, the day before the Test. They were understandably concerned by his fitness levels having not bowled too much of late, of course two over bursts are nothing when you have to bowl seven over bursts, two and three times a day.

Think him and Hussey will get the nod, providing he's not too far behind on fitness.

Thought Sky had the rights to all home Tests in India, Australia, South Africa and West Indies?

Interesting indeed! Would be good to see Smith going after Harby, but you'd think it would be a very risky decision, which could spell the end for Hussey if Smith succeeds. Unlikely pick.

Shane Watson has made such a difference. He is a world class all- rounder who can do a great job with the ball and if you have that you have an option to play another spinner, but if you don't have an all-rounder you can't.

I await apologies for many in this thread who amazingly claimed that Watson lacked the bowling grunt to provide Australia with the much-needed flexibility during this Test series.

Rumours swirling around the backstreets of India that Hussey could be punted for Smith.
Smith looked poor against spin in the series vs Pakistan in England, though of course he was on debut.

You would think if they picked him he would come in for North, surely. If Smith plays and bowls then they don't need North doing the same. And even though he has been below par for 12 months, Hussey still >>>> North.

Ha. Way over the top from Ponting to call Watson a "world-class" all-rounder.

If Ponting seriously believes Watson can provide such balance. Hopefully the selectors dont as well, since it would be a travesty if does play as a third seamer.

Shane Watson is a world class allrounder. Sure, he might have only taken 38 wickets in 20 tests, and scored just the one century, but having an opening batsman who can score fifties at will () and bowl ten overs of genuine test class bowling is fantastic to have.
