Think we can all agree that it will be an interesting series to watch! There's always a limit to how much you can read into past performances and recent form against third and fourth parties (A beat C, and C beat B, so A beats B but A lost to D who lost to B so... Etc etc).

Oh now issue that for a period in the 1990s the Saffies were the number two side in the world. But however you spin it in terms of being down to luck or 'Warne' (not really clear how that's different from us being the better side), you guys consistently failed to get the job done. It was only when you caught us at a 20 year low while you were at a similarly extreme high that you got a win over us. Of course we did win the next series.
You shouldn't have taken that as a critcism of any Austrlian team.

I respect any Australian team just like I would think that you would respect in South African team.

Obviously SA vs AUS series is the series I get the most enjoyment from being a spectator.

Both nations produce quality pitches for quality cricket and its a joy to watch.

Spot on.

Taking the words from right out of my mouth.

SA are better than India in the ODI game, in my mind atleast (except maybe at ICC tournaments).

I'm talking only about Test cricket where you have let Australia walk all over you over the last decade despite having a great bowling attack and players who are pretty well suited to playing pace and bounce.

Of course I don't count India as "big boys", we have only risen to the top in the past year or so and Australia didn't leave much room for anyone else when they were dominating.

There's a limit to how much I would say SA "let" us walk over them, as opposed to us then simply being too good.

Yeah, I know, was meant in a friendly way ;)

Whatever it takes!!!
Well that clears one thing up. You clearly don't count India as one of the big boys. Yeah, SA does have a folders rep in ODI's, never denied it. But where does that leave India. Apart from the one WC, many years ago, India haven't done much either.
Why would India be among the big boys? We are only even close in the last 3 or 4 years...

Seam Up and Taipan will make this thread interesting one way or another once this series gets going.

Good to have more Saffie posters on this forum. Let's just hope this thread is civil during the series :)

Yeah, diversity of opinion isn't something we want here 8-)

It is good to have some more SA fans here IMO.

One of the worst intentional misquotes ever.

And if this 'Joni' thing catches on there's gonna be hell to play. Bloody four or six!

Bloody GI Hoe

Cheers Jono. I have known Seam Up for some time. He is the most reasonable of posters.

Me, I'm slightly different. Speak to me civilly and I will respond in kind. Unprovoked personal attacks however....

...will be reported to the mod team using the little red triangle in the bottom left corner of posts rather than taken as an excuse to get into a slanging match, or else there will be consequences for unacceptable posts made in retaliation as well as those that provoked them.

Yeah Matt, I hear you but reporting is not really my style. Having said that I normally use reason, facts and stats to get my point of view across.

I seem to recall that the 2 games when we took 19 were both badly rain affected.
You recall badly then.

In both of those games SA had in excess of a day to bowl England out and failed (the second time they couldn't actually do it in 141 overs)

The fact remains that India have never won a series in either Aus or SA. In the last decade SA has beaten every team away, and with the exception of Aus every team at home.
Not beaten England at home in that period either.

TBH I would say India overall have been better here. They've run us close on numerous occasions over the past decade or so, and whilst SA actually tasted success, that was the only time they were even remotely likely to do so.
Surely what SA did is miles and miles better?
