Hold up. Dont make it sound as if ENGs batting dominated or was on top of the SA bowling or anything during that series.

Injuries (Steyn 1st tes two tests, Kallis in the 1st coudn't bowl - De wet for final innings of the 3rd test) & poor selection (Nitni in the 1st two test when he was clearly finished). Prevented SA from fielding their best attack until at least the 3rd & 4th tests mainly.

So its fairly daft to imply that just because technically SA only took 20 wickets 1 in that 4 test series, that when faced with a stronger IND batting they would struggle. When SA had their full-strenght attack by the final two test (especially in the final test) ENG batsmen where owned. Theirfore once they field a similar full-strenght attack - without a doubt they will have the edge over INDs batting, who outside of Tendy & Laxman - their top 7 is very suspect in pace-bowler friendly conditons.

Haven't read the whole argument but it does seem like Aussie is trying to clump all sub continent pitches together as flat tracks. While they may be relatively easier to score runs off fast bowlers on but not all of them are the dead tracks that seem to turn up every now and then. Ishant has been low on confidence and has been bowling a lot on dead tracks. I still think he can be a very good bowler.

How I love selective stats. Of course the fact that the last 2 series has notning to do with it. IIRC over the 2 series, 5 tests were played, both teams winning two.

They said when Fanie De Villiers left it would be a big blow, they said when Donald left it would be a big blow, they said when S. Pollock left it would be a big blow, now we've recently lost another veteran in Ntini but the show goes on. I don't think Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel is a bad show at all. Mark Boucher recently said that Steyn will eclipse Donald and all of our fast bowlers since re-admission.

I think since 1992 we have only lost 4 or 5 test series at home and Australia were 3 to 4 of those times.

Then you take into account that India have not been able to handle us at home in all series we have played and you take the actual record into account...its going to be one hell of a tough series for India.

The attack we are going to face is basically Steyn plus a hot and cold Morkel this time around. The current side is weaker than the past sides we have faced in SA and this is the best chance we have to win at SA.

Yeah one wonders why India are so loath to tour SA. I don't know why people think this is a weak SA team. Virtually all of the SA top 6 would walk into any test team in the world and the top six is far stronger than the rapidly aging Indian top six. The SA attack is far stronger than India's. Imho India will be lucky to win a test.

Morne Morel has definitely not blown hot and cold against England and the Windies. At times he was unplayable. Ask the English and Chris Gayle? As Allan Donald kept saying, he didn't know his action fully yet as he was young in FC terms when he debuted. Now he is maturing and I also think the fact that Corrie Van Zyl is temporary coach is a good thing for him.

I remember on India's last tour here...I remember a Morne Morkel who was raw only having played 10 or so FC matches give India a hard time at Newlands...probably our most docile pitch for the quickies.

Smith, Kallis, Amla and AB could easily walk into any test team.

There aren't many better fighters in test cricket than Ashwell Prince so I guess a team like India don't choose fighting batsman. They look for the easy-on-the-eye failures like Murali Vijay and Rohit Sharma.
