Lets not kid ourselves, this was all timed very well. There's no way that Pietersen will not be playing in the First Ashes Test, and the idea is to have pricked some pride a bit so that he's got something to prove.
I'm much more nervous about Pietersen now than what I would have been if he were allowed to stay in a little bubble where he thought that he was untouchable.

Bell will come in for Morgan and that will be the only change from the top six at Lords for the 4th test.
Think it's quite a shrewd move, actually. KP seems, from the outside looking in, to be very much an ego driven player and judging by his Tweet this has pricked it.
There's also a wee bit of a closed shop about Team England now, this proves that not only that a spot in the XI isn't a sinecure, no matter who you are but also to those on the outside that there is still a chance for them.
Bopara singularly failing to grasp the nettle in the two T20s so far tho, it must be said.

Some truth in that, but one hopes his latest additions to the bulging file of evidence marked "not of the requisite quality" might convince the selectors that enough is too much.
Could be he's just regarded as a limited overs specialist now tho. Think Morgan's very much first reserve for tests now tho and I can't see that Carberry has done anything so wrong as Ravi should move above him in the pecking order either.

He did nothing but bitch and moan after leaving KZN, Nottinghamshire didn't want him, Hampshire didn't want him, then when it suits him they let him come back to SA and have a hit, so he can go off refreshed and play for another country.. Sometimes things happen in SA sport that completely defy logic and reason.. At least they aren't paying him
