English national football, where do we go from here?

Johnson's a cack-hander, isn't he? Bung him on the left with Milner suspended.

Of the two tho, Johnson. Not close either.

That's what I thought. With all the hype going round it's confusing. Johnson's class IMO. Sorely missed at the WC.

Very boring and predictable article quite honestly.
Predictable yes - but most should be done. Esepcially the winter break & Burton up & running.

Since all that will happen again as it has been the case since EURO 2000, is we will run through EURO 2012 qualifying & they will choke in the EUROs, given the players will go into tournament the most tired team again due to hectic season.

Debatable TBF. Are we 100% sure he would have handled the pressure of the WC well?. Dont know. But given the SWP was shockingly picked with Walcott dropped - if Capello wanted a more experienced & seasoned premiership option - that was Ashley Young.

But thats all in the past. Johnson is a beauty.

Surely that can't be an excuse, given Barcelona players played more football than most and won the WC, Sneijder won the treble and reached the final, Kuyt probably runs 15 km a game, gets picked every game and was easily the best Premier League player in the WC. They just played poorly, much much worse than they do in the average qualifying game. I think the occasion got to most of them.

Don't think you can give one reason for an entire team underperforming. Some of them are ****- SWP, Heskey. Some of them just aren't especially great players- Upson, Green, James, Barry, Defoe. Some were good players coming off a mediocre season- Carragher, Terry, Gerrard. Rooney just looked burnt out- again, his form was just an extension of his poor post-injury performances for United. Maybe you could say the occasion got to Lampard, but I didn't even think he played especially badly.

Personally, I think it was the expectations of the press and public that got to them. When Green made that fumble and made a potential great start into a wonky one it just piled on the pressure for England. When you know your every pass/shot is another opportunity for your own fans to talk **** about you it can get to you.

What, the same Ashley Young who's never done anything of real note for England?

Explain the logic behind suddenly putting him ahead of Walcott and Johnson.

Yeah that sounds much better. Anyway, I don't think fatigue should be an excuse.

Dirk Krap easily the best Premier League player in the WC - what absolute bollocks. He was absolutely abysmal in the final and was at best painfully mediocre in the rest of the tournament.

Since long before Euro 2000 actually.

Yeah, I think there's some truth in this too. But even so, most of the team were already playing quite badly for their clubs towards the end of the season.

Also missed Ferdinand a lot. People don't seem to like talking about that, probably because it sounds like an excuse, but it's true. His partnership with Terry was fantastic during qualifying.
