Sonny Bill looked good today - I know that Somerset rates the regular Cantab #12 as do the Cantab coaching staff - but if SBW keeps playing like that he will win the starting job before long.

Great passing skills. That took me by surprise.
Nice understanding of the game. He was the opposite of Witt when he tried his hand at rugby from league.
Nice tackling.
Saved a try.

Two enthusiastic thumbs up.

Need to see more of him before I can comment on him vs more seasoned players at 12.

Speaking of 12s Kahui is on the bench for Waikato this weekend!

Pretty impressive effort from SBW - might have to work on his kicking game (from memory he kicked once in 55 minutes) but his ball skills and workrate were very good. The tackle on Masaga to save an otherwise certain try was also impressive.

Speaking of 12s Kahui is on the bench for Waikato this weekend!

Really pleased to see Kahui back, I've always been impressed at his skills and he'd have played an aweful lot more than he has for the ABs had he not been subject to so many injuries.

Just watched Waikato win. Pretty scrappy game. One outstanding play from the Waikato number 12 - just after I had written him off for another useless outing. He ran 20 metres challenged for a high ball in the air won it - off loaded and set up a try. Then he found his confidence and looked a million dollars. Still don't like that player.

Good to see Kahui back. Waikato's handling is still poor.

Holwell Doin' it for the Taniwha.

Went up to Palmerston North today for the Manawatu/Wellington game. There were some pretty dodgy calls from the ref (or so it looked, the big screen replay screen at FMG is incredibly poor). Wellington were pretty atrocious - a lot of loose passes, poor ball retention. Highlight of the game for me was the post match punch up in the "Bucket Zone" which was broadcast on the big screen. A Manawatu buckethead put a decent king hit in on a Wellingtonian who was hit hard enough to send him tumbling down over a few rows of seats.

Only caught the second half of the match - really not sure either how Otago managed to hold on despite facing a ridiculously strong gale with only a seven point halftime lead. Has to be said that Hawkes Bay have been really disappointing this year after performing so well in the past few seasons (making the top four in the last three seasons IIRC).

Hmm interesting, I hadn't actually heard about that rumour until now and thats a real shame because I've loved watching them play over the past few seasons. There simply hasn't been any cohesion in their play this year so far and I was expecting them to finish in the top seven at the beginning of the season - would be an incredible form reversal if they achieve that now. In saying that it certainly hasn't helped losing key players over the past few years like Naoupu, Thomas Waldrom, Berquist, Taumalolo, and of course Dagg's only played a game or two due to his AB commitments.
