Hazelwood's selection an absolute joke tbh.
No it's not. What harm is it in having a young bloke around the team? Would get so much more out of it than if he sat at home watching Ready, Steady, Cook.

Obviously they rate him for the future. No harm in it whatsoever.

How do you say that? If anything Ponting and Hussey have gone only a notch down. Hayden has retired so has Lee. The remaining all have not exactly set the world on fire, and if they've they will find India completely diff to what they've been accustomed to so far.
Bollinger is better than Lee ever was, one or two series aside. Hauritz is a proper spin bowler, unlike the prank selection of White as a specialist spinner. Katich and Watson have established themselves as the best opening pair in the world atm (pair mind you, obviously Sehwag is the best opener). Yeah, Ponting's dropped a level, but Clarke has moved up a level at the same time. Conditions in India should suit Hughes to a tee, and when in form, he can score big.

08 was not good.

Kinda miffed at them bringing Hazlewood over. I know he's a talent and they're trying to develop him etc, but he's the fourth best seamer in NSW (and that's being pretty generous). Is a series in India immediately preceeding the Ashes really the time to be looking way down the track.
Is there a reason why Ryan Harris isnt in the squad? He didn't exactly shame himself in NZ.

Its a complete waste of a tour spot. Send him on a bloody A tour. Seems to me that they could have picked an extra batsman that would replace North instead.

With Hughes and Smith, they already have two spare batsmen. It's only a two test series, they're unlikely to exhaust that many options.

Injured knee, hoping to be back by the one day series in India.

How is it a waste of a tour spot? They've already picked two extra bats (Smith and Hughes) so there's nothing wrong with him coming along and getting overs on the sub continent wickets in practice. It's the best way to fast track a young players development. The confidence these guys get out of hanging around the senior group is immense, let alone the little tricks they would learn bowling with the likes of Johnson and co.

CA hardly has limited resources, not like him touring is going to send them broke so why not pick 15 instead of 14, which aussie suggested.

Err yeah, the less said about Smith's batting prowess the better. I can understand that he has a good FC record, but with that technique, he wont be scoring very many runs at the international level.

lol.

Think people said the same thing about Sehwag re: technique.

The people who said that clearly didnt have much of a clue about technique.
Because Sehwag's footwork is so classical, right?

These players have crafted a specific technique for themselves which works. Just because he doesn't look as sound as some players around doesn't mean he can't make alot of runs at number 6 at international level. I'm sure that 70 odd he made in England was just a fluke, right?

I would think hes already got to do that when hes given chances to hang around the ODI side. The only way to improve is to bowl in the middle, I think that has been obvious since the start of time. Just seems like a waste of money to me, they are better off having Lillee or some other Australian legend work with him over the winter to get him in better shape.

With all due respect to you and anyone reading this on CW, I'd back the Australian cricket teams coaching staff to know how to best development a young cricketer over anyone posting on this forum.

I'm sure Cricket Australia can afford to fork out the couple of thousand dollars it will cost them for Hazelwood to tour...

It doesnt have to be classical. The point is that you need to be in the best possible position to play any type of shot. Martyn is a classic example, so is Prior. These guys dont exactly have extravagant footwork, but they get in the best possible positions to play the shot, that is ultimately what matters.

Scoring the odd 70 odd doesnt mean much. Broad just scored 140 odd against the same bowling attack. Lets face it one innings doesnt make a career.

Because they've bred so many successful test cricketers at such a tender young age over the past couple of decades. Oh wait 8-)
