Broad cops up a bit of trouble.

Seriously? This is Dubai, where people get arrested for having .003 g of cannabis in the tread of their shoe. There is absolutely no doubt that Asif got off lightly because of who he is.
Let me clarify. I'm not arguing that he didn't benefit from being a cricketer. His sentence would've been lengthier if he wasn't who he was. My point is that he didn't get off scott free either. He was arrested and subsequently banned for life from UAE. That's a harsh sentence for a first time offender who got caught with a recreational drug - and that too without the intent to distribute. In most places in the world, that would've hardly raised an eyebrow. I'm not defending his actions mind you; he knew the law of the land and was a **** for doing what he did. I just want to put it in perspective that's all.

I think there's a big difference people are overlooking - Prior was out of his crease and was getting back in when he got hit, Haider was just standing there.
Not sure what point you're making. Both batsmen were clearly out of their ground. Why is it more legitimate to throw the ball when the batsman is trying to get back than when he isn't? Frankly I think if the batsman's out of his ground and just standing there, which quite apart from anything else is a slightly provocative thing to do, he shouldn't be at all surprised if the bowler tries to throw down the stumps.

The difference for me is that Broad seemed to be aiming at the man and Asif didn't, although I suppose there's no way I can prove that.

The key difference is that Broad is English and people think he looks and acts like a girl, whereas the good people of Cricket Web have a hard on for Asif.

I was under the impression Haider was in his crease and not attempting a run. Makes a massive difference to whether an incident was out of line or not.

If you look at the footage that people have posted here, Haider was definitely out of his ground.

Yeah, was about by about half a foot, and was basically back in his crease as he was hit by the ball. Actually surprised that Broad didn't appeal for handling the ball...

Another key difference is that Haider a) played a gutsy knock on debut and b) was replacing Kamran Akmal, if Broad had thrown the ball at Shoaib Malik no-one would care.

Prior was back in the crease, with his back turned on the bowler when Asif threw the ball at him. At least Haider was watching the ball and had a chance to either get out of the way, or defend the ball with his hands. Asif threw the ball at a bloke that wasn't even looking, and was back in his crease. Threw the ball back at Collingwood, who only just got out of the way in the last game too. Repeat offender, throw the book at him.

Pakistan instigate a lot of incidents on the field but the umpires are not willing to get involved in the politics that follow.

Th Asif one was just as bad as the Broad one as both threw the ball directly at the player,at least Broad threw it at someone who was facing him.

Asif is a scummy little toerag who is lucky to be playing cricket at all with his track record.Great bowler but what a tosser.

Disagree....Prior was out of the crease at the time Asif collected the ball and the way Asif threw the ball..which was at Prior's toes suggested he was trying to aim for the stumps and not Prior's head/chest like Broad did....only when Prior ground his bat the ball hit him....Asif has a case of running Prior out...Broad does not....

Asif was frustrated because England had just lost two wickets?

That's exactly my point...you can tell that Asif only threw it back because Prior was out of the crease....

Plus Asif does turn back and appeal to the umpires for his wickets... unlike some who think the Umps agree just because i am papa's boy
