Interesting RE: Bock, and Adelaide getting the info out of him. The Age pointed out that Harbrow hasn't been picked for the last few weeks by the Doggies, trying to draw a correlation.
He's not been picked because he's been sick and had injury problems. ****, before last week we were competing for a flag. If we were to jeopardize a chance at a flag by getting rid of one of our best performed players this year, the whole selection committee deserves to be sacked.

Seems like it's out of spite by Adelaide to tell Bock to GAGF. It would of been like Brisbane telling Folau to piss off when he decided to join GWS. But then their season is over, it would of been different had they were to play Finals footy this year.
Yeah, I think that you've answered your own qualm there with the second sentence.

Exactly what I was thinking. They're completely different scenarios - Adelaide has nothing to play him for, so of course they'd play someone else. Whether that's spite or not doesn't really matter.

Jeez I hate the concept of signing at club whilst still playing with the other club. But I suppose we'll have to get used to it for this year and next.

Would be absolutely filthy at a player at my club if they signed for the GC whilst still playing (Hale aside). Imagine being a team mate.

The next few weeks should be interesting though, you'd expect Bock isn't the only one.

Hutchy is going to be like a pig in ****. More so than usual anyway.

For those more in the know, if GC are allegedly going to pay Bock $600k a year, and Adelaide couldn't offer nowhere near that sort of money, and I know a few players have retired, or will retire by the end of the season, is the club is pretty close to maxing out the salary cap, or they don't like getting into bidding wars with other clubs?

I doubt they'd be anywhere near the salary cap with Burton and Edwards going. Goodwin and Macleod are gone as well IIRC but only half of their salaries would've counted towards the cap because they were veterans. To be honest, they're probably closer to the minimum than the maximum.

Without knowing how much those guys were on, I'd suspect it was quite a bit of coin, so Adelaide could have offered $600k a year if they really wanted to. He's not worth that much though.

Pretty much this.

The salary cap has basically never been an issue in the AFL. Adelaide just weren't prepared to pay $600k for a bloke who's played dick all in the last two years and is 27 with injuries, albeit a talented player.

So have the Gold Coast could potentially have themselves a steal if they manage to get Bock fit week-in, week-out?

Probably, but from what I understand the compensation system is much better this year so Adelaide won't do too badly out of it.

The Dogs will more than likely lose Harbrow to the Gold Coast, and will probably use whatever is left from him, Johnson and Eagleton to throw at Griffen to keep Adelaide's dirty paws off of him.

Well I guess it depends on what you classify as a steal. He might end up being worth the price tag, but by any measure I've got he'll never be a steal. It makes sense to be splashing around the cash they have on a player of his vintage from a list management point of view, because with a max of say five years left, they can use that cash to hold onto the youngsters they have picked up this year and will draft in the next few. I think that has factored into the whole decision from the GC's perspective.

Yeah, GC working off a different basis to everyone else in terms of what their list is like and the money they have, so there will be some players who do much better than was otherwise likely.

The come home factor to Adelaide is just non-existant in nearly all cases, I think Griffen is safe as houses at WBs

Dear Aaron Sandilands,

Please stop being a tall **** and play for Fremantle on the weekend, as I feel you will aid them in their endeavour to beat Hawthorn.
