Hunte is a value acquisition at this stage. I thought I'd be in a position to pick him, sseing that he isn't all that much talked about on the forums.
Yeah he's not talked about too much hey, but what a player! If you looked at the batsman who played with or against Edrich he was clearly the best batsman available and I'm pretty happy now with a top 4 of C Hunte, G Smith, T Dexter, G Chappell.

so frustrating

I wrote a long and immensely interesting reply here, but by the time I hit Submit, CricketWeb had logged me off again. It's so annoying! Will try again tomorrow...

I'll try an abbreviated version.

What i wanted to say was, first, that I thought this draft was a magnificent idea.

And secondly, however good the team you pick, you can't win a match unless you can take 20 wickets. So the most important consideration is how many wickets your bowlers get per match, and unless that adds up to 20 your team isn't going to win anything.

So, basically, it would be stupid for anyone to pick another batsman until their bowling line-up adds up to 20 wickets per match.

This was followed by statistical analysis of each team, based on wickets per match and runs conceded against runs scored, conclusively proving that Somerset has chosen a crap team, and that Barnes is the greatest cricketer in history.

But that is all lost now, and we shall never know the truth...

Sounds like it would have been one helluva post. Do it again mate and keep a backup this time lol..

KingKallis, you know my sleeping habits so well these days. ;)

That sounds like a bad post. You think that wickets/game is the best measure of how good a bowler is when so many other factors affect it?

(I know I'm up)

Given your analysis and the criteria you've adopted of the respective bowling line-ups of our drafted teams I'm not surprised to see my side come out near the lower end of the scale at the moment. Though I still have three picks and two of those will be genuine bowling options, and any attack led by Dennis Lillee is a threat IMO. Also have to be careful when it comes to statistical analysis, particularly with the early 19th century players selected and those that had to perform on uncovered wickets.

Anil Kumble

2nd Test: India v Sri Lanka at Nagpur, Nov 26-30, 1997 | Cricket Scorecard | Cricinfo.com

Team so far:

*Sir Leonard Hutton
ML Hayden
RT Ponting
PBH May
+Sir Clyde Walcott
A Kumble
BS Bedi
CA Walsh
I'm looking forward to seeing which quick you end up getting to partner Walsh, because if he's any good your team is going to be awesome.

Must admit I was looking at Kumble because he's capable of batting at 8 and having him bowl with Murali would be pretty awesome (similar to Bedi and Kumble).

Maybe someone should start a Murali vs Bedi thread.
