Ponting has effected 250+ run outs in International cricket? Seriously??? (might be wrong, stranger stats have come to my notice this week, one of them that Manjrekar played in 33 different test venues in his first 33 tests!!!),

Also, Sachin the fielder not getting the due recognition he deserves. Age or no age, has kept a very high standard of fielding and catching, possibly the latter more.. is still eons better than the bowlers and even 1 or two top order batsman.

I love Sachin vcs, but even if we were to limit this to test cricket, Ponting's fielding > Sachin's bowling.

Disagree with the general statement that allrounders are better than specialists though. But that's an argument for another day.
Jono - For me, Sachin's ODI bowling > Sachin's Test bowling, even though he has taken some crucial wickets in some of our Test victories. He has 154 ODI wickets. But in ODIs, the influence of Ponting's fielding and direct-hit runouts will also proportionally go up, IMO.

Also, Ponting's ODI captaincy is fantastic. Among the best ever, the results speak for themselves. 2 WCs, 2 Champions Trophies, series wins pretty much everywhere. But I'm not convinced with his Test captaincy regardless of winning percentage stats.

To clarify, I wasn't considering Sachin's ODI performances, or anyone's. My list is purely Tests. Sorry, I didn't know. Would probably come up with a very different list if I combined the the two forms.

Ponting vs. Sachin AND Ikki vs. Sir Alex?

:(

Come on guys.
Yeah, I know it is as exciting as an India-SL ODI for the lookers, but let me stop it with one last point

Australia will slip to No. 5 if England manages to win this series 3-0 or better. And I don't think they have ever occupied such a low ranking ever. I might be wrong of course, but I'd be hugely surprised if I am.

They haven't done so yet and they could go as far as #2 in the next few months (could they go to #1?) but I am not sure. Let it happen, and then say something.

Aside from that, Ponting has lost practically an entire team. You give him no credit for leading the side when it was strong and then heap **** on him when the team is full of newbs.

And England winning 3-0 here?
