23.6 - Finn to Umar Akmal, OUT, this one keeps low and moves sharply in off the seam to hit Umar on the back pad. He's given out lbw, and decides not to refer the decision. Why? He was hit well outside the line, and though the ball would've hit the stumps the referral would've saved him. He did look plumb first up, but surely they should at least have tried the referral. Too late now, he's gone
I find that, as a batsman, it is rather hard to judge if a ball would have gone on to hit the stumps....., but to judge whether the impact was outside off....., even I can do that.

Apart from that, as the last recognised batsman, you can simply go for the referral and hope for the best....

Oh, 6 down now.

How many other golden ducks have there been for test debutants?

On the stats front, two entries in the "slow ducks" top 50, headed by the legend of Geoff Allott.

Farhat in 14th and Ali in 45th.

Other way round surely? Ali's took 32 balls, compared with Farhat's 24.

And no-one ran him out??

Zulqarnain's is the 55th first ball dismissal in Test cricket. Shillingford, Arnel, Walton, Onions, Hilfenhaus and Paranavitana also recent inductions into this particular hall of infamy.
