*Official* Pakistan in England 2010

That's more like it. They better declare as soon as Prior gets to his century. Could do with half an hour at 'em tonight.

Not Terrible
It's day 3 and England need every single run they can get and time isn't an issue. WTF are you on about sure they've probably got enough but no sense in not doing this and making it all the more certain.

Yeah bamboozling argument about declaring and getting in Paks tonight. I'd say with thecurrent Pak batting lineup, and the conditions, it is best to have a go at them early tomorrow with fresh bowlers. Meanwhile just aim for lead maximisation today.

But England need to start winning away matches to be considered a contender to No 1.

Not many sides are winning away from home against other top 5 sides: that's the record in the last 4 years (most recent series taken into account)

There is absolutely no point in declaring now. If Pakistan bat out the rest of the game they'll comfortably pass England's total.

We're 422 runs ahead, we don't need anymore. It might be day 3, but you never know what's going to happen with the weather in the final 2 days. We seem to do this so often, where we're in a great position but then plod along wasting time blocking trying to get a batsman to a century. If Prior was controlling the strike and clobbering them all over the shop I wouldn't mind, but where's the logic in allowing Finn to block out 5 balls an over? Warne just made a great point too, declaring tonight gives you 2 bites of the cherry with the new ball. The openers are fresh against the new ball twice, instead of just the once in the morning tomorrow, giving you more of a chance to nip 'em out. If they're waiting for Prior to get his century, I wish he'd just get on with it, and get there quickly.

Totally agree with this, don't see any problem with it myself, score as many as possible, IMHO.

Agreed, but England's away record looks like 3 wins and 10 losses there, with 2 of them against NZ which is a weaker side than itself.

There's 0% chance though of Pak batting the rest of the match out. I would declare and get a couple wickets tonight and finish off the rest tomorrow.

So? Getting them in tonight after a day in the field is preferable to them opening up tomorrow morning

Plus there's no point batting for the sake of it. Grind them into the ground and get the game done IMO.

There are 20 overs left in the day. 12 overs bowling at them tonight is the perfect opportunity to nip one out tonight. The last thing the Pakistani openers want is to have to run back to the changing room to get their pads on tonight, but they're not going to be made to do that if we keep plodding along with Finn blocking. I'm all for clocking up the runs, but they're not doing that. Prior's taking a single and then watching Finn block for 5 balls. How is that helping England in the slightest?

Yeah that's my thinking as well. I would want to send a message that we didn't just comprehensively beat you, we absolutely annihalated you.

Or they could bat well tonight for the loss of no wicket and have a much more manageable 350 starting tomorrow. There's no logic declaring now.

They're chasing 430 on a pitch with variable bounce, in perfect conditions for swing bowling and on a deck that is sure to offer some assistance to Graeme Swann. They're not going to win. Might as well give ourselves an extra 12 overs to bowl at them tonight.
