*Official* India in Sri Lanka 2010 - Tests

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Australia couldn't put away a team ranked in the bottom tier, SA couldn't beat England at home and only beat a third rate WI side so far. They've been struggling as well. Not saying India are undisputed number 1 but they certainly have a good case.

As for whining about how Sri Lanka aren't going to have a player who has retired for the remaining two tests - you deliberately ignore that India had a half fit Harbhajan and their two premier pacers injured? Not to mention Australia struggling to put away a Pakistani side that has no Yousuf/Younis.
Murali is worth 5 times more to SL than 2 blokes who average mid 30s in test cricket are to India

Cant believe that you'd suggest otherwise

Yeah, but he's retired. You could make the same argument about how it's a shame India don't have Kapil Dev for this series - once someone's retired they're no longer part of a team's full strength lineup and hence they are completely irrelevant.

Big blow that Malinga is injured. Should select Prasad and Fernando. That will provide plenty of fire power.

Good chance of Gambhir to ton up now with no Malinga there to dismiss him in the first over.:p

But Prasad had some wood on Gambhir last time when India toured. He has lost about 5k of pace, and will not hit that 145k+ speeds now. But he'll be slippery, and ultra aggressive as well.

Haha, Fernando, such a prank-bowler. I'll never be able to rate him.

If he plays he'll get Tendulkar out cheaply but go for 5 an over IMO.

So annoying when he gets Tendulkar everytime.

Worst person for one of the greatest batsman ever to be a bunny to.

He has been used in the wrong way for such along time. Selectors think that he's a workhorse type of bowler, which is not the case. He needs to be encouraged bowl in all cylinders in short spells. He is liable to go 5 per over. But when he gets it right, is a very difficult customer. I would take a 18-90-3 from him because he usually knocks off the top order. After all averages 34.9 and a SR of 58. Not the worst stats as well. Not a world beater definitely, but you can assign him a limited role (like roughing up batsmen) and get it accomplished.

What about us missing Kapil Dev and Bishen Singh Bedi?Oh wait they are retired..just like Murali.

Stop being intellectually dishonest - Zaheer,Sree and a fully fit Harbhajan is a much better attack than Ishant, a half fit Harbhajan and a debutant. And well done on ignoring the bits about Australia 8-)

I think SL have to go with a complete new bowling line up for the second test..

Murali retired
Malina missing due to injury
Walgedera and Herat both were uneffective

I think SL should go Mendis, Randiv and new two new ball fast bowlers..

Thushara and Kulasekara?
Thushara is injured. Otherwise he would have partnered Malinga. Kulasekara is not a test bowler. Sehwag even when he's 65, would take 125k trundlers to the cleaners.

It's a big blow that Thushara is not test-match fit. He was regaining his pace and bounce and was clocking 145k in the tri series. But physio thinks he need some time. Thushara when full fit is a true fast bowler with pace similar to Mitchell Johnson of late.

I'd take Kulasekara over Fernando any day of the week tbh.
May be bowling conservative batsmen. But Sehwag and Gambhir are no conservative batsmen. They'll take to Kulasekara. On the other hand both of them don't enjoy extra pace and bounce on the ball. Fernando can provide just that, if he can get it on a decent length.
