Who will score the next triple

As a side-note, who's the one batsman who, if he gets into triple figures, you'd most bank on to make it really really big? It's Sehwag for me.

I was a little but surprised to see only one Aussie there and that being against Zimbabwe doesn’t really count IMO. But I’d guess Australians only play to win, and if a batsman was in a situation to make a triple hundred, the team would be the top priority hence they would declare. That’s what I make of it? Not sure tho, I found it kinda’ weird.
What do you mean by just one Aussie? Do you mean in the past 10 years? We had Mark Taylor 334* in the late 90s along with others beforehand.

It's not easy to get to 300 for sure, especially when teams often declare between 500 and 600.

.....Bradman x2, Cowper, Simpson, Taylor, Hayden...sounds like 5 Aussies...

I was talking about just the past decade.

Another reason for me to wub RSA then. They don't rely on big contributions from one guy in matches. Always a team effort.

I'd put and equal bet on Jayawardane too. after all he made 374.

Same here..its just the amazing strike rate that he is able to maintain..
When Sehwag bats for the whole day, he gets 280. When Kallis bats for the whole day, he gets 170.

Maybe Kallis is trying to defend the team on 3rd day while the Saffricans are gripping onto a follow on second innings, Don't think Sehwag faces that kind of a thing much.

But in the first test against England lat year.. Kallis came in to bat pretty early, in the first innings on the first day..and England bowling was pretty flat that day..not that Kallis batted badly. Scoring 170 is a tremendous feat by all means..just pointing out the difference in strike rates that ultimately makes the difference and explains why Kallis has none and Sehwag has 2.93 triple centuries.

I think Sehwag does. The SL series which gave India its #1 ranking, SL racked up a huge 1st innings score, and Sehwag walked out, scored quick and huge and nullified that advantage completely. His quick 167 in the 2nd SA test was instrumental in India winning the test and holding onto the ranking too, considering the test was decided off almost the last over on the 5th day. Those innings' of his were defensive innings', because India was on the backfoot when he walked out, but the pace at which he scored them made them look like aggresive innings' in hindsight.

Sehwag gets to play all teams on home conditions(flat pitches) so he has more chances than a Kallis. Sehwag plays half of the matches in India and then a few in Pakistan. Kallis has to cash in when he plays in India. I'm not putting down Sehwag but merely pointing out that subcontinents batsmen have some advantage.

Kallis doesn't average significantly higher in India than he does overall.

I think he does but he plays India thrice every two or three years which means he plays less in India and it reduces his chances. Sehwag has the advantage of playing regularly in India against all nations(weaks and strongs) and most nations don't have the bowlers who can bowl on the flat wickets.

I'm not putting Sehwag down or bigging up Kallis.. I'm just trying to drive the point subcontinents batsmen have advantage in this regard.
