*Official* English Domestic Season Thread 2010

Any reason as to why Essex are playing Kent at the Oval?
It's an arrangement Kent came to with Surrey, effectively leasing the ground for the day. Done for the benefit of supporters in the west of the county who find Canterbury a bit of a slog. Although I know of some from the Bromley and Eltham areas who just support Surrey anyway for reasons of practicality. They do also play at Beckenham, but as a club ground it's not ideal for Twenty20 (although with the crowds down this year, they might have managed).

Yep he's been immense this season, but Sussex cricket's loss will be Hurstpierpoint College's Geography Department's gain
I hope RMJ will continue with his writing as well, I've been quite impressed with his pieces in the Wisden Cricketer magazine.

Yeah was a good atmosphere last night, even though I was sat amongst to many Frenchies for my liking. Almost full as well, a few empty seats in the alcohol free zone all i could see.

Not a bad innings from Dawid Malan.

Elsewhere, the runs seem to have dried up for Alex Hales who only managed 3(8) today and Sussex are 65/6 after 12 against Surrey. Adrew Symonds opened the bowling at took 2/18 from his 4 lol.

Tried listening to the Sussex radio game for some background noise while I study. Is there always a ****wit breathing heavily on the microphone? Just unlistenable.

Ravi celebrates his recall to the ODI squad with his maiden 2020 ton. Brought it up in the grandest of manners too; hit the last three balls of the innings for Dorothys.

Tres currently showing what a loss he is for us too. Deposits Ravinder for a Dorothy of his own as I type, 63 off 38 currently. Ah, Banger, if only you weren't mad.

Get Jeremy Coney off English domestic coverage as he continues to state the score in the antipodean way. That in combination with the accent is really ugly to my ears.

If Mark Nicholas can go to the colonies and start using their incorrect way then commentators coming to the UK can surely use the prettier sounding format.

Think the Antipodes have definitely got the short end of the stick on the Coney/Nicholas exchange, tbh. Rate Coney highly myself, one of the few genuinely witty comms.

Cidermen having a wee choke with the finish line in sight. 12 needed off 12 should still be a cakewalk, but Ravi's sent Pollard and Hildreth back to the hutch in that over.

Im no fan of Nicholas either but at least he respects his employers and listeners enough to change how he says the score when on air. Coney can GAGF is he keeps saying '3 for xxx'

EDIT- Im not commenting about the wit or wisdom of Coney but I genuinely find his accent hard to listen to. Some accents sound sophisticated, some authoritative, others warm and welcoming. His just jars the ears.

Wonder if 9 instructed him to openly lust over anything blonde and Australian too?

Re Coney, I hadn't noticed it until you pointed it out, so I've obviously been watching too much Aussie coverage. Half tempted to pen a mock-disgusted email to Sky now, but CBA.

MotM an interesting call; know the losing side rarely gets the nod, but Bopara the stand out for my quid.

12 runs off of 12 balls with 6 wickets in hand? I bet there area few others who would like to choke like that!

Agreed,i like Coney.Gives a good opinion in a funny way and not afraid of upsetting people with his views.

... and not for the first time the lower order come to our rescue - shame flibberty got himself banned - would have valued his input :)
No complaints, with our attack on international duty we have no pace bowlers that are good. You should have won the game at our place and we should have beaten you at OT so all worked out in end.

Still think you'll finish above us,realistically i thought we were certs for relegation when the season started so to be top now is some achievement though i remain convinced it won't last.
