*Official* Bangladesh in England

Congrats to Bang they bowled well and the fast bowlers kept it simple and straight which England struggled to score off.It has got to be said if Bang were ever going to beat England, today had to be the day with Bell missing. It is frustrating that England keep giving their wickets away with loose shots,I know it's ODi's but still. England looked a bit complacent at times which has come to bite them .Moving forward this lose will bring them back to reality and will do some good moving forward.
Personally I would be like them to bring Bopara in for Wright, who I think can be the equal of Wright if not maybe a little better with the ball and obviously better with the bat.

Well done Bangladesh, thoroughly deserved.

So glad it was the Aussies rather than us copping it from the Banglas in '05, but quite happy to lose the unbeaten record now.

.... and they did it without a significant contribution from Tamim - hoping this will do their confidence some good - they are a considerably better team than the one that was here in 2005

Seems to be one of those players - and Ramprakash was another - who feels he's playing for his place every time he plays for England. Obviously doesn't feel secure in the set-up, perhaps imagining that some people are just waiting for him to fail.
Can you blame him with the way he's been treated so far?
I haven't watched the game but it seems like people in this thread are being unduly harsh on him. Bar Goughy and skd from what I've read.
When Morgan got out we were effectively 90/5 as it didn't look like Bell was going to bat. Yet people (KP especially) were laying into him for batting at a sensible rate and not throwing his wicket away.
Blame the defeat on him "getting bogged down" for 10 overs in the middle if you want. I'd look at numbers 4-8 who contributed 41 runs between them.

Think I should make something clear here. I'm not placing the entire blame for the loss on Jonathan Trott, it was a terrible team performance. Trott was the stand out performer with the bat, but even he didn't bat well enough. The rest of the batting order batted even worse, not putting any value on their wicket and leaving the run chase to someone else. It's clear Trott isn't a finisher and he needed someone to stick with him till the end, but none of the batsmen were capable of doing that and that is really frustrating. The bowling was largely good, with Shahzad and Broad impressing, but the fielding was sloppy again, which is disappointing given how well we've fielded in recent times. Bangladesh shouldn't have got as many as they did, and in the end it cost us. However, given the length of time Trott batted, he should have been able to accelerate sufficiently to win us the game. The fact he wasn't taking responsibiity and feeding the strike to numbers 9 and 10 annoyed me, the fact he still couldn't find the boundaries in the powerplay frustrated me but maybe I was a tad harsh on him. He certainly wasn't to blame for the loss entirely, but his innings isn't deserving of a great deal of praise either I don't think. He got us close and did well to hang around as long as he did, but he should have secured a victory. To bat that long, and let the run rate rise that high and to then throw his own wicket away just wasn't good enough. He did OK, and it was a decent knock, but it ultimately wasn't good enough, and I believe the negative manner of his innings warranted critcism, but I'm more than happy to admit that he did a heck of a lot better than anyone else.

DAMMIT! I went to bed when Bangladesh were coming unstuck around 5 down.

Congratulations Bangladesh. Now start getting some test wins...

A win over a team that has a significant handicap through no fault of their own is not a brilliant win or even close to it.
I guess you're meaning Bell. Every team Bangladesh play have a significant advantage over them - their countries have been playing cricket for much longer, their bowlers are better, their batsmen are better. Bangladesh have two injured players out as well (their regular keeper plus the high scorer from the last game) and they still pulled it around.

Be happy for them. It was a brilliant win. For them. It's not like one of them took a bat to Bell and smashed his foot up. Mind you, some of them would have liked to the other day.

I had the game on TV while I was sleeping - I heard the last over but I couldn't tell if it was a dream or not.

Well done Bangers

Well done Bangladesh. I went to bed with Bangla 5 down and having just witnessed the most appalling piece of running between the wickets (Ashraful). Never expected them to pull this off.

They are always a tough team to shake off if their spinners are on form and containing well. Similar approach to how Zimbabwe have turned things around in the past 6 months.

Wow, I didn't expect that when I went to bed with England 49-0 (turned out I switched off the TV the ball before the first wicket!).

Congrats to Bangladesh. :)

The strengths of the sides are what are supposed to decide matches, not having unfair advantages to artificially even the playing field. The fact that Bangladesh aren't a good side has nothing to do with it, they are playing at the top level and I for one wont give them special treatment or consideration. It would of been a brilliant victory had they beat England on even terms, but they didn't. Its not their fault but that doesn't change the facts.

That they don't have their first choice players available is also entirely different to having a numbers advantage. England weren't playing a full strength side either, and its hardly rare for teams to have to field 2nd choice players in general due to injuries.

Good god! Trott got to his 50 off 91 balls? That's beyond terrible, although his teammates have to share quite a bit of the blame.

I don't see how it was an "unfair" advantage. Bell's injury was just an accident. I don't see England making any excuses for the loss

"They were going to beat us at some stage and we were just hoping it would be some stage in the future," he added. "They thoroughly deserved their victory but for us it's about going away, licking our wounds and making sure we don't repeat the same mistakes again on Monday."
If England were chasing 300 then you could say that they needed all of their batsman to win.

Your really trying to argue that 11 vs 10 is not an unfair advantage? I don't care if England aren't making excuses, facts are facts. Bangladesh did not beat England in a balanced/even/fair contest. It doesn't matter at all what Bangladesh scored. Whether England should beat Bangladesh even with a player down isn't the issue here.

Any team sport is meant to have equal players as having more players gives you an obvious advantage. I shouldn't have to spell this out.
