*Official* Road to the 2010/11 Ashes

Yeah, bit of an advertising no-brainer I'd have thought?
I don't think anyone's disputing this tbf. I made a remark to the effect that it was a "controversial choice of captain" which has regrettably been followed by one or two of the Aussie posters here taking things a teeny bit too literally.

Wasn't a dig at you, tbh. If it was some random cricket ad to show off how technology can put past players on the same field as recent ones then yeah, making some else captain would be fine. That its advertising the upcoming Ashes is the determining factor. Opening with KP and Botham was an interesting move though....

Strauss failed here last time, and he looks a lot like my Tory arsehole local MP, so he will fail again.
If anything that should point to success. You may not like him but he hasn't exactly been a resounding failure during his career has he, being an MP by the time he turned 30... :p

You're not the first person to point out that he looks like Strauss though. :p

And like Strauss, Alex Hawke has done nothing in Australia

Surely he's no relation to Bob Hawke? Can't believe he'd have Tory progeny... :-O
Brumbers, you can't go around mentioning Bob Hawke in the same breath as Alex Hawke. One's a legendary, hard-drinking, long-serving PM.

The other is, well, the other bloke.

Maybe an opener as well?

Totally agree with that squad, but yeah, I'd definitley add a reserve opener, and ATM that'd be between Carberry, Lyth and Key. I'd personally go for Carbs.

One would think we would take at least 5 fast bowlers

Bell in for Morgan for the first XI then

Morgan
2 of Bresnan/Shazad/Sidebottom
Panesar/Rashid
Probably Luke Wright

Wouldn't think we would take a spare opener or wicketkeeper, would just call them up if we get an injury. Not my choices, but what I think they will go with

Well Australia brought 16 over here last year didn't they? I agree that ideally we'd take 5 fast bowling options but none of them fill me with a great deal of joy. If Onions hadn't have got injured, or even if he managed the second half of the county season and did well, I'd tak him. Bresnan and Sidebottom will just be cannon fodder down under though. The only seamer besides Finn having a real good season is James Harris with 42 wickets at 20.7. Or Chapple who has 36@19.2

Last time we took 16 which included 2 wicketkeepers and 5 seamers in addition to Flintoff. But I guess we were planning to play 5 bowlers all the time. So Davies may go and they might think with him (who has been opening for Surrey this year with some effect) and Trott/Bell around they can cover the openers, at least until a replacement can come out if they wanted one. They would also, rightly or wrongly, think of Wright as a semi viable option to replace a batsmen batting at 7 with Prior at 6.

Two keepers were taken last time because the position wasn't settled, though, not as backup as such.

I'd go with that but not an extra opener i'd pick another paceman,if Onions is fit enough it should be him but if not then i guess Bresnan will go.
