Group D - Germany, Australia, Serbia, Ghana

Good fighting point for Oz, but could've been all three. Need a minor miracle now. Need Jerry to thump Ghana and hope you can nick one against Serbia.

Wilkshire's miss was awful. Couldn't believe the space he had and by the looks of it he couldn't either.

Really proud of that performance. Had chances to win it but that was more of an Aussie performance.
Yeah agree with this. On the back foot for a long time in that second half but that's to be expected I guess.

Intense.

I wish we played Kennedy from the start. Gives the team far better structure and a likely avenue for scoring.

Overall happy with the performance today, more of a performance similar to 06. Even Moore put in a big 2nd half.

Are Ghana's centre backs out for the Germany game as well? Thought they looked shaky at the back.

Why did Verbeek take Wilkshire off? He was the most effective player on the field, and would have been faultless if he'd pulled off the one thing he wasn't being paid to do.

Penalty was a 50/50, as evidenced by the split over it on CW. It's either a penalty and a red or no penalty, ftr. Ref can't just make the rules up.
I really don't think it was. Everyone of the BBC panel (a Scot, a German, a Togolese & an Englishman) called it as a pen.

No one without a dog in the fight has said it wasn't a spot kick.

DWTA massively, was exposed way to many times.

Doesn't make them right tbh. Kewell's eyes were closed ffs.

After 10 or so watches I really do think it was 50/50. Was clearly trying to get it onto his chest at speed, but it did hit his arm so what can you do?

Could definitely see Australia beating Serbia, assuming it's 11 v 11 of course for most of the game.

Could also see Germany beating Ghana comfortably. Normally African teams are organised and physical enough not to get thrashed, but then they looked pretty shaky at the back today and Germany will be looking to put a marker down.

I think it'll be a pretty exciting finale whatever happens, if things go as expected I think it'll be Germany comfortably topping the group and any of the other three as a possibility coming into the last half an hour.

Was my initial reaction tbf. You're hard-pressed to unequivocally call it a "deliberate handball". In the split-second he had to react, Kewell could have been either getting his arms out of the way in order to block it with his chest or spreading himself in an effort to block it with his arms. Kewell himself might not even know which, but that's the decision the ref has to make.

Not sure how anyone can honestly say that Kewell didn't deserve the red. Not saying the ref was any good, mind you, but that was definitely a fair call.

Ghana are so overrated going forwards. They needed 2 penalties and the rest were shots from the next area code. Hope Germany belt them.
