As this seems to have run out of interest the answer is the number of calls to BT, or whatever they were then called, on their dedicated Test score line.This was much higher than ever before and was put forward as an illustration of how much interest there was in that year’s Ashes series – the contrary view was that the average enthusiast would ring every half hour - thus 12 calls a day over a five Test series would indicate something like 40,000 enthusiasts nationwide or, in other words, a minority sport
