Probably safe now, decent win. Given our run home we're a decent shot at finals now. Just wish we could do something about our percentage

Awesome game, lot of momentum shifts, didn't really expect us to get up but Thomas just had an absolute blinder.

A Carey-esque performance from him on Fri night, kicked 7.5, 20+ disposals, plenty of contested marks, tackles from behind, 1 percenters - the whole lot.

Bastinac & Warren were good up forward as well and McMachon was fantastic as the sweeper down back - great foot skills on either foot. Hopefully we start to learn to put sides away, should really have won by 10 goals if not for the two fadeouts either side of the half.

Smokers chance of a top 8 finish - gonna have to win atleast 12 games though with this percentage

Port are rubbish. I have a real beef with them, in particular how they were paraded as potential top 6 contenders early in the season. They're so rubbish. Only thing that's more rubbish is the fact that they'll probably knock us over next week.

On the Hunt thing. Admittedly I have only seen highlights, but the more I watch of them the more I have doubts over him making it. I was always the one saying that he could make an honest footballer (without actually being very good), but I dunno, the way he moved just doesn't fill me with confidence, even if it was his first game. So much to learn.

Gold Coast really did not look like a team that's going to be playing AFL next year. Admittedly the point of the VFL exercise is to get experience together, and they haven't even assembled a full roster yet, but Christ almighty they were bad. If you're getting thumped by the reserves of a team that is parading around in the AFL with a 61% scoring percentage, you have serious remedial work to do.

I did like the look of Trent McKenzie and Brandon Matera though, and I'm sure Weller and Toy will end up very good players.

Yes, and I said that this isn't going to be the same team running around in Rd 1 next year in my original post. But it's obvious that they're going to be stinking it up for a while.

And ftr, today was Harmichael ****'s debut in the VFL.

THey should, in theory, improve a lot more in the space of 20-odd games than most lists would, given the higher than normal preponderance of kids in their list.

A quick scan of the GCFC website suggests a few things:
a) I've seen a better looking collection of heads left over on the prawn platter last Xmas
b) they have some ripper names, including this bloke - "what, you're mother didn't like you?" - who's now my new cult favourite.
c) At the age of 24, there are only five players older than Hunt on the GCFC list of 46, inc. AFL recycs Nathan Ablett, Daniel Harris, Daniel Stanley and Sam Iles.
